ATHENA — Easton Berry ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more in helping Weston-McEwen win their Blue Mountain Conference opener with a 33-6 victory over Stanfield on Friday, Sept. 27.

“Tough, physical game,” W-M coach Morgan Dunlap said. “Boys played super hard and kept their composure. Great win for our first league game. Super proud of them and the coaching staff.”

Jesus Arellano scored the Tigers’ lone touchdown on a 2-yard run, but Stanfield had a hard time getting its offense on track.

“The defense played stellar, but let a few plays go past them,” Stanfield coach James Stradley said. “Altogether, we had way too many little mistakes and penalties. Antonio Galindo had a 60-yard kick return for a touchdown called back for a penalty. Overall, this game goes in the rear view and it’s onto Heppner at home next week.”

Berry rushed for 132 yards and two scores, and threw for 162 yard and two touchdowns.

Ethan Reeder was on the receiving end of two passes for 80 yards and a touchdown, while Jace Dunlap caught four passes for 55 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Berry led the team in tackles with eight, while Dunlap had five tackles and two sacks.

The TigerScots (2-2 overall, 1-0 BMC) will play Oct. 4 at Enterprise, while Stanfield (2-2, 1-1) will host Heppner on Oct. 4.

Rockets fall to Union

UNION 66, PILOT ROCK/UKIAH 14 — The Bobcats made the most of their opportunity to play at Eastern Oregon University, beating the Rockets in a nonleague game.

“This our first game there in four years,” Union coach Jesse Reed said. “Our seniors were freshmen and we got stomped. It’s a special deal to be on a college field.”

The Bobcats (2-1) led 50-0 at the half, using a stellar defense that recorded back-to-back safeties, a pick six by Jackson Davenport, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.

On offense, Kelton Shoemaker and Morgan Johnson each ran for two touchdowns.

“They did great,” Reed said of his team. “They played great offense, defense and special teams. It was a good game.”

For the Rockets (0-4), Carter VanHouten scored on a 1-yard run, while Krister Litfin scored on a 10-yard scamper. Carter Ford had the 2-point conversion after Litfin’s touchdown.

“It was a bad one,” PR coach Shane Munkers said. “They were a lot tougher than we were.”

VanHouten finished with 11 tackles, while Litfin had seven.

Pilot Rock will host Sherman on Oct. 3, while Union will host Crane on Oct. 3.
