ESTACADA — Tugg McQuinn ran for 261 yards and four touchdowns, and added a receiving touchdown, to help Pendleton to a 59-28 nonleague win over Estacada on Thursday, Sept. 26.

“Overall, we never punted and scored on every possession,” Pendleton coach Erik Davis said. “That’s a really good offensive day. I thought our O-line gelled. Tugg is a good one, Mason (Strong) had a day, and Colson (Primus) threw for almost 300 yards, three touchdowns and managed the game.”

Primus completed 16 of 20 passes for 298 yards and three touchdowns, Strong caught seven passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns, and he ran for another. Vance Nelson had two carries for 79 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, the Bucks had a fumble recovery and recovered an onside kick.

“Our defense did a great job of adjusting to what they do,” Davis said. “In the second half, they had one score on a broken play. Our linebacking corp grew up a bit, which helps with us facing Baker next week. We told our kids we have a chance to win a league title, which says a lot after starting the season 2-3.”

The Bucks will open Greater Oregon League play Oct. 3 at Baker.

PENDLETON 3, ONTARIO 0 — The Bucks improved to 2-0 in Greater Oregon League play with a 25-14, 25-7, 25-7 home win over the Tigers.

“While Ontario’s young team didn’t provide much of an offensive challenge, they had some scrappy defensive moments which challenged us in the first half of set one,” Pendleton coach Jodi Primus said. “We started off a little slow tonight, but picked up the momentum and kept right on going with it.”

Josie Jenness handed out 17 assists, while Avery Brown had seven kills with a 77% kill percentage. Nessa Neveau added seven aces, Lexie Willman had four kills, Kelsi Primus had five kills with a 55% kill percentage, and Adrianne Demianew had a 1.6/3 serve receive average.

Brown, Willman and Sophie Nelson all had three solo blocks.

“All the girls got some playing time tonight, and it was great to see them all enjoy the game and work together,” Primus said. “These girls are really starting to gel and come together, which I’m very proud of.”

Pendleton (7-3 overall) will host Vale on Friday.

WESTON-MCEWEN 3, ENTERPRISE 0 — The TigerScots ran their win streak to five with a 25-10, 25-12, 25-16 Blue Mountain Conference home win over the Outlaws.

“It was a good day for Weston-McEwen volleyball,” W-M coach Marie Cain said. “We closed out the match in three, serving tough from the end line and keeping offensive pressure on.”

Delaynee Angell led the TigerScots with nine kills and eight aces, while Bre Ward had eight kills and two blocks, Charlotte Hansell four kills and five digs, Haylie Monroe three blocks, Kylie Kramer 11 digs, and Mya Bryan five aces.

W-M (11-5 overall, 2-1 BMC) will play Oct. 3 at Grant Union.

MCLOUGHLIN 3, PILOT ROCK 0 — Lanie Ellis had seven aces and three kills to help the Pioneers to a 25-14, 25-17, 25-18 nonleague road win over the Rockets.

“This was a great game and we competed hard,” Mac-Hi coach Kassidy Ruiz said. “Pilot Rock had some great blockers that we had to work around, but we made it happen with tips and hits. Our serves were on point tonight, which kept and got us the lead in all the sets.”

Addy Brown added seven assists and three kills for Mac-Hi (8-4 overall), Miley Rhoads had six kills, two aces and one block, and Brynlee Miller had four aces, two kills and one block.

For the Rockets (3-10), Aubrey Corwin had four kills, seven digs, four aces and five assists, while Coley Gibbs had 11 digs and three aces, and Kessa Liftin handed out five assists.

“We came out a little flat tonight,” Pilot Rock coach Jen Porter said. “We changed the lineup a little in the third and that set looked better, but we couldn’t quite get the win. Coley had a good night defensively. Mac-Hi was a solid team. They played great defense and were aggressive offensively.”

Carter Ford led Pilot Rock, placing 25th with a time of 20:43.84 at the Baker Invitational at Baker City Golf Course.

Enterprise’s Jett Leavitt won the race with a time of 16:51.41, 38 seconds in front of Baker’s Daniel Brown (17:29.78).
