MISSION — When two teams are looking for their first Old Oregon League win, it’s only fitting the match goes down to the wire.
Trailing two sets to one, Griswold won the final two sets to rally for a 30-28, 14-25, 17-25, 25-18, 15-11 victory Thursday, Sept. 18, over Nixyaawii.
“Our service game was a roller coaster tonight of aggressive aces and some costly errors,” Griswold coach Kaitlyn Muller said. “Nixyaawii played well and picked at our holes and weaknesses. I’m glad our girls executed on some of the things we’ve been focusing on and dug deep at the end for the win.”
Kallie Jo Campbell led the Grizzlies (2-6 overall, 1-1 OOL) with 10 aces and four kills, while Ellie Morris had nine aces, and Amy Weidert nine kills.
The Golden Eagles (0-2 OOL), who played their first match Tuesday, fought tooth and nail for every point.
“It was a good game, for sure,” Nixyaawii coach Nina Watchman said. “They worked hard and stayed positive. Teata (Ellenwood) and I are proud of the work our girls are putting in.”
Liana Stewart led the Golden Eagles with six kills, while Neveah Moore had five aces and one block, Devon Hall Spencer had 14 aces and two kills, Brooklyn Jones had two kills and two aces, Tracy Gatica had five aces, and Annalise Watchman chipped in four tips and six aces.
