Echo digs deep for OOL win over Pilot Rock

ECHO — Echo improved to 5-2 in Old Oregon League play, and is tied for third place with Joseph, after beating Pilot Rock 25-22, 25-19, 25-21 on Saturday, Oct. 11.

“It’s been a long week with homecoming and Dig Pink,” Echo coach Des Thew said. “The girls did a good job playing through the tired today. Dig Pink is one of my favorite games of the season. The money we raise stays local and we get an opportunity to show our support for our community members dealing with cancer. I am happy to have a day to give back to the community.”

Decked out in pink and black, the Cougars (9-10 overall) had to fend off the Rockets (8-11, 4-6), who served well and had a strong day at net from Kashley Golden.

Kenzie Hendrix led Echo with seven kills, while Brooklynn Wade, Gracie Putnam and Kamren Blankenship each had six. Lilah Miller handed out 16 assists, while Payton Widener had four aces, and Brynley Allen 10 digs.

Golden led the Rockets with 11 kills, while Gracee Hemphill had five aces and four blocks, Aubrey Corwin 11 assists, and Coley Gibbs and Jada Deist each had seven digs.

“We came out a little flat today, and were hesitating a bit on defense,” PR coach Jen Porter said. “Overall, we played pretty well, we just couldn’t keep the momentum going to get the win. Kashley had a great match hitting, and Aubrey did really well setting her up.”
