PENDLETON — A beautiful sunny day saw a plethora of personal best times Tuesday, Oct. 21, at the Kyle Burnside Memorial Invite at the Golf Course at Birch Creek.
Union’s Ian Garlitz turned in a PR of 16 minutes, 14.6 minutes to place third behind a pair of La Grande runners. Garlitz’s PR before the race was 16:42.
“It definitely helps with the level of competition we have in Eastern Oregon right now,” Union coach McKenzie Sheehy said. “It’s pretty phenomenal. We had a great day.”
Kaden May of La Grande won the race with a PR of 16:08.50, with teammate Cooper Altenburg second with a RP of 16:12.40.
Riverside’s Ethan Beaty had an outstanding day with a PR of 16:41, beating his previous top time by 16:43.70. while Pendleton’s Jack Reynolds was fifth in 16:47.10.
La Grande won the team title with 34 points, with Union a close second with 41. Pendleton was third (86), while Riverside was fourth (113), McLoughlin seventh (168), Pilot Rock eighth (237) and Nixyaawii ninth (252).
Following Reynolds across the finish line were Farley Hill (14th, PR 17:29.50), Autry Robinson (22nd, 17:50.60), Eagle Edmiston (24th, 17:56.60) and Maliki Adams (33rd, 18:27.20).
Weston-McEwen’s Arden Shaul finished in the top 10, placing ninth with a time of 17:18.70. Also for the TigerScots, Tristan Weseman was 39th (18:57.10), Aiden Aldrich was 83rd with a PR of 22:33.10, and Hunter Bissonette was 96th with a PR of 27:35.50.
Sun Schimmel led the Rockets, finishing 21st with a time of 17:47.80. The next Pilot Rock runner was Landon Norton (78th, 22:21.20), followed by Ayden Hoeft (91st, 24:34), Parker Bucher (93rd, 27:23.80) and Mason VanHouten (98th, 29:56.80).
Cashis Bevis led the Nixyaawii contingent, placing 69th with a time of 21:18.80. He was followed by Noah Snow (77th, PR 22:14.40), Jeffrey Van Pelt (85th, PR 23:02.90), Bryson Boyd (87th, 23:49.80) and Dresden Farrow (89th, 23:53.10).
In the girls’ race, Weston-McEwen freshman Evelyn Hodgson turned in a time of 19:52.70 to place second to La Grande’s Lindsey Brown (19:08.90).
La Grande won the team title with 24 points, followed by Union (43), Pendleton (75) and McLoughlin (102).
Pendleton’s Evelyn Hayes ran a 22:31.30 to finish eighth overall, followed by Rylee Jackson (12th, 23:52.10), Kimberly Tinoco (18th, PR 24:14.60), Marion Oliver (23rd, 25:23.20) and Ella Holtz (24th, 25:26.60).
Also running for the TigerScots were Ashlyn Hoehna (26th, PR 25:50.50), Alethea Bond (29th, 26:27.80) and Manaia Wolf (42nd, 30:39.60).
Pilot Rock’s Hailey Severe ran a season best 23:53.50 to place 13th, while younger sister Autumn Severe was 35th (27:29.30).
Rosaella Salt led Nixyaawii, placing 31st with a time of 26:52.40. She was followed by Shylee Broncheau (32nd, PR 27:01.10), Emma Star-Nez (36th, 27:39.30) and Ayanna Star (45th, 31:30.30).
