La Grande slips past Pendleton in GOL play

PENDLETON — Jack Kimball hit four key 3-pointers in the fourth quarter and finished with 21 points, to help La Grande to a 73-64 Greater Oregon League victory over Pendleton on Friday at Warberg Court.

“We did a lot of good things in this game,” Pendleton coach Ron Murphy said. “Jubal (Hoisington) and Garret (Reinhart) were tough to guard inside. We just didn’t execute down the stretch and they did.”

The Tigers took an 18-13 lead in the first quarter only to see the Bucks come back with an 18-7 run in the second, led by Hoisington with 10 points, for a 31-25 lead at the half.

La Grande fought back in the third, and took a 46-45 lead as Landon Hood hit a basket at the buzzer.

The Tigers pulled away in the fourth, using a 27-19 scoring spree to leave the Bucks behind.

“They got hot in the fourth quarter,” Murphy said. “Their strength is from the outside, and they did a very good job.”

La Grande hit 11 3-pointers on the night, with Kimball having seven.

Hoisington led Pendleton (9-11 overall, 1-2 GOL) with 21 points, while Reinhard had 16 and Dillon Elrod 14.

Blake Hildebrandt added 19 points for the Tigers (10-8, 2-1), while Hood added 11.

“We will regroup,” Murphy said. “We still have lots of games to play. We will be alright as long as we stay together.”
