SCAPPOOSE — In one of the biggest upsets of the season, Pendleton outscored Scappoose 6-3 in overtime to hand the top-ranked Indians a 51-48 loss Monday — just their second of the season.

“It’s so exciting for them,” Pendleton coach Ron Murphy said. “We haven’t put a full game together before today. We knew we could do it. They decided today was the day. This is a big win. I couldn’t be more proud of them.”

The Bucks (4-9) trailed 37-34 heading into the fourth quarter, where Dillon Elrod scored six of his 13 points to send the game into overtime.

Scappoose’s Will Kessi hit a 3-pointer to open overtime, followed by a basket by Jubal Hoisington to cut the lead to 48-47. Aaden Hernandez made two free throws, and Elrod and Teegan Herrera each made one to help seal the win for Pendleton.

“They were tough, but we came in with a game plan and executed down the stretch,” Murphy said. “Teegan had a great game offensively and defensively, and Garret (Reinhart) was good on the boards for us. Just a great team effort all the way around.”

Pendleton led 13-11 after the first quarter, but the Indians (9-2) put together a 15-8 run in the second to take a 26-21 lead at the half.

Herrera scored five points in the third quarter to help the Bucks pull within 37-34.

Hoisington also had 13 points for the Bucks, while Herrera had nine and Reinhart seven.

Kessi led the Indians with 15 points, while Brayden Miller had 14 and Drew Butler 12.
