Pilot Rock tops Echo in OOL opener

ECHO — Sun Schimmel poured in 26 points to lead Pilot Rock to a 61-35 win over Echo in the Old Oregon League opener for both teams Friday night.

The No. 6 Rockets (12-1) scored the opening basket of the game and never trailed. Pilot Rock led 15-6 after the first quarter and 27-14 at the half. 

The Cougars (5-8) trailed 42-26 after three, but a 19-9 run by the Rockets in the fourth put the game out of reach.

Tate Thacker added 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Rockets, while Gage Williams had four points and 10 rebounds, Tucker Holton three points and 11 rebounds, and Carter Van Houten five points.

Mack Murdock had a team-high 12 points, seven rebounds and four steals for Echo, while Cole Ayres had 11 points, Tyler Campbell nine points and three steals, and Kohlvin Wyse seven rebounds.
