Rockets fend off Golden Eagles

PILOT ROCK — Paige Hansen scored 10 of her 19 points in the second half as Pilot Rock overcame a poor shooting night for a 47-36 Old Oregon League win Tuesday over Nixyaawii.

“We struggled offensively, shooting 18% tonight, but we were still able to get the win,” Pilot Rock coach David Norton said. “It was good to play good defense and get the win despite our struggles shooting.”

Hailey Severe kept the Rockets in the game in the first half, scoring 14 of her 18 points.

Pilot Rock (11-4 overall, 1-1 OOL) led 15-8 after the first quarter, and 24-15 at the half. The Rockets outscored the Golden Eagles 23-21 in the second half to secure the win. Freshman Cryssa Kirkie led Nixyaawii (5-9, 0-1) with 14 points, while Gracie Wilson added seven and Emma Star-Nez six.
