IMBLER — Nixyaawii outscored Imbler 38-29 in the second half to rally for a 66-61 Old Oregon League win Thursday.
“They closed the game and we didn’t,” Imber coach Tony Haddock said. “They made free throws and got stops. (Keli) Spencer and (Jeffrey) Van Pelt hit huge shots when they needed to.”
Nixyaawii (15-10 overall) finished its OOL schedule with a 9-1 record and the OOL’s Meacham Division title.
Trailing 32-28 at the half, the Golden Eagles went to work in the third quarter, getting nine points from Kash Bronson in a 17-6 run that turned into a 45-38 lead.
Spencer had eight points, and Van Pelt had five in the fourth quarter as Nixyaawii held on for the win.
Bronson led the Golden Eagles with 24 points, while Irvin Stewart had 19, Van Pelt 11 and Spencer 10.
Pedro Rivas led the Panthers (5-17, 3-6) with 21 points, while Caison Vela added 12 and Forrest Tyrrell nine.
Haddock girls lead Imbler past Nixyaawii
IMBLER 55, NIXYAAWII 29 — Whitney Haddock had 16 points, and Imbler overcame a slow start to beat Nixyaawii 55-29 in an Old Oregon League win Thursday.
Nixyaawii got a pair of 3-pointers from Liana Stewart in the first quarter as the Golden Eagles took a 12-5 lead.
Imbler (19-4 overall, 8-1 OOL) came back with a vengeance in the second, going on a 19-0 run for a 24-12 lead at the half.
The Panthers kept the pressure on in the third with an 18-7 scoring spree for a commanding 42-19 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Gracie Wilson led the Golden Eagles with nine points, while Cryssa Kirkie added eight and Stewart six. Nixyaawii finished its regular season 9-16 overall and 4-6 in the OOL.
London Kunz added 10 points for the Panthers, who will close out OOL play Saturday at Griswold. Saviah Kunz and Jeytt Cant each scored nine points.
