PILOT ROCK — Chet Workman drove the key and put the ball in the basket as time expired in overtime as Prairie City/Burnt River upset No. 10 Pilot Rock 79-78 on Tuesday in the first round of the 1A state playoffs.
“I am very proud of our kids for the year they had,” Pilot Rock coach Tyler Zyph said. “Obviously not the way anyone wants their season to come to an end.”
The Panthers (18-9) advance to the second round, where they will Friday at Days Creek. The Rockets finished their season 22-6.

The Rockets bolted out of the gates for a 30-18 lead in the first quarter as Gage Williams drained three 3-pointers and Sun Schimmel scored 12 points.
The Panthers rallied the troops in the second, going on a 15-8 run, led by Ritter Rookstool with five points, to pull within 38-33 at the half.
Sawyer Quinton and Noah Kenyon each had seven points in the third quarter as the Panthers went on a 21-15 run for a 54-53 lead.
The Rockets got seven points from Tate Thacker in the fourth quarter as Pilot Rocket outscored the Panthers 15-14 to tie the score and force overtime.
Thacker had five points in overtime, and Schimmel added a 3-pointer, but Workman’s second basket in overtime proved to be the game-winner.
Schimmel led the Rockets with 27 points, while Thacker had 23, Williams 15 and Boston McCall eight.
The Panthers, who are in the midst of their best season since 2019, were led by Rookstool with 16 points, while Quinton and Kingdon Mitchell-Kirby each had 15, and Kenyon added 14.
