Pomona tops Pendleton in 8 innings

AVONDALE, Ariz. — Pomona scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to eke out a 7-5 win over Pendleton in eight innings at the Coach Bob Invitational on Wednesday morning.

Pendleton (2-6) trailed 5-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Bucks soon tied the score as Eli Smidt and Kolt McQuinn hit sacrifice flies.

The Bucks had men on first and second with two outs when Riley Williams popped out to Pomona pitcher Tyler Dempsy.

The Panthers had the bases loaded when Damani Chavez scored on a wild pitch, and a Luca Lombardi single put another run across the plate.

McQuinn struck out two of the last three batters to get out of the inning.

In the bottom of the eighth, Pendleton had two men on base, but could not get them home.

Pendleton scored its first run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by McQuinn, but did not score again until the sixth, where Kreg Krol and McQuinn hit back-to-back RBI singles to pull within 5-3.
