EUGENE — Weston-McEwen’s Wyatt Parsons, the fastest man in the state at the 2A level, put his stamp on the season with a state record in the 100 prelims Thursday at the 2A state championships at Hayward Field.
Parsons ran a 10.89, eclipsing the previous record of 10.91, set in 2024 by Austin Snyder of Mannahouse Christian Academy.
Parsons was the only runner at the 2A, 1A or 3A level to run under 11 seconds.
Parsons also will run in the 200 finals after posting the top time in prelims of 22.14. Also advancing to finals is Tristan Weseman (23.13).
Parsons, who won the long jump last year, placed fourth this year with a leap of 20-8. Weseman was sixth (20-3 3/4). Ryder Howard of East Linn Christian won with a jump of 22-0 1/4.
Weston-McEwen’s parade to the finals continued into the 300 hurdles, where Logan Ray had the second fastest time with a PR of 42.04.
Weston-McEwen’s Arden Shaul ran a PR of 9:10.57 to place sixth in the 3,000, while Jace Dunlap (46-11 3/4) and Cason Pettyjohn (46-3 3/4) finished third and fourth in the shot put.
Bandon leads the 2A team race with 23 points. Weston-McEwen is second with 22 and Knappa is third with 20.

1A boys
Pilot Rock’s Sun Schimmel booked his ticket to the 100-meter final, placing fourth in the prelims with a time of 11.29.
He will also run in the 200 finals after posting the second-best time to win the prelims with a PR of 22.89. Schimmel passed two Harper runners in the last 30 meters and almost caught Harper’s Sam Jensen (22.86) at the finish line.
“He looked really good in the 200,” Pilot Rock coach Tyler Zyph said. “He is bigger and stronger than he was a year ago and we decided to put him in the 100 and 200. He’s done well. The goal for today was to make the finals. He has the 800 tomorrow too. We are hoping for a podium finish in all three.”

2A girls
In the long jump pit, Weston-McEwen’s Charlotte Hansell finished fifth with a personal best leap of 15-7 3/4.
Weston-McEwen sprinter Addy Hall earned a spot in the 100 final with a time of 12.98.
Hall is also in the finals of the 100 hurdles, turning in the third-best time of the prelims with a 15.81.
Hall and Hansell earned a spot in the 300-meter hurdle finals after each ran a personal best. Hall was clocked in 46.14, while Hansell ran a 48.43.
Bandon leads the team standings with 23 points, with Crosshill Christian a close second with 22, and Clatskanie third with 18.
