PENDLETON 16, PHILOMATH 0 (5) — Tatum Lambert and Maryn Broker each drove in four runs and Shaylor Fisher pitched a complete game two-hitter as the Bucks steamrolled the Warriors at the Battle of the Beach in Newport.
After a scoreless first inning, Pendleton put six runs on the board in the second, courtesy of a two-run triple by Lambert and a two-run double by Broker. Avery Quaempts sent the sixth run across the plate with a sacrifice fly to right field.
In the third, the Bucks manufactured four runs with Finley Evans belting a three-run triple to right field. The other run scored on a bases-loaded walk.
Pendleton put the mercy rule in play with a six-run fourth inning, with Broker hitting a two-run double, while Quaempts and Lambert hit two-run singles.
Fisher allowed two hits, struck out two and walked none in earning the win.
As a team, the Bucks pounded out 10 hits, committed zero errors and took advantage of six walks.
PENDLETON 16, NEWPORT 6 — Avery Quaempts hit two home runs, and Maryn Broker hit a double, a triple and drove in two runs as the Bucks dominated the Cubs at the Battle of the Beach in Newport.
Pendleton opened the game with two runs in the first as Quaempts hit a two-run home run to center field.
Newport scored three runs in the bottom of the first with two coming off RBI singles and the other off an error.
The Bucks took the lead for good with three runs in the second.
Freshman Madyson Hernandez hit an RBI single to tie the score at 3-3, then Broker drove in a run with a single to center field, and Evans stole home for a 5-3 lead.
The Bucks added three runs in the third, four in the fourth, and two in the fifth as Quaempts hit a two-run homer. Single runs in the sixth and seventh finished the scoring.
Quaempts went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and three runs scored, while Hernandez and Tatum Lambert each drove in two runs. Katelyn Boatman went 3-for-5 with three doubles.
Broker got the start for the Bucks, giving up five runs on four hits with four strikeouts over three innings. Shaylor Fisher finished the game, allowing one run on three hits while striking out three in four innings.
For the game, Pendleton had 16 hits and not one batter struck out.
Rockets get walk-off win against Oakland
PILOT ROCK 11, OAKER 10 — Kessa Litfin hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out to help the Rockets to an 11-10 win Monday over the Oakers.
The score was tied at 10-10 heading into the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Lacy Bucher singled to reach bases, then stole second and third with Litfin at the plate. Litfin hit a line drive to the shortstop, allowing Bucher to score.
Oakland had taken a 7-0 lead through three innings, but the Rockets battled back with two runs in the fourth and seven in the fifth to pull within 10-9.
Pilot Rock tied the score at 10-10 in the sixth as Paige Hansen stole home.
Litfin, Hailey Thieme, Rylee Bedard, Gracee Hemphill, Jada Deistand, Autumn Severe all had two hits on the day, with Hemphill, Thieme and Kashley Golden all hitting doubles.
Coley Gibbs earned the win in the circle, pitching four innings, where she surrendered three runs on nine hits.
Oakland got solo home runs from Avery Hays and Addison King.
Langford, Ward power W-M past Oakland
ATHENA 15, OAKLAND 3 — Lily Langford hit two home runs, and Bre Ward hit a home run and struck out 15 as the TigerScots beat Oakland 11-3 on Monday in a nonleague game.
“This was a pretty close game up until the sixth inning,” W-M coach Jeff Griggs said. “We have a lot to learn from this game. We didn’t play very clear on defense. We need to go back and work on that. I am proud of the kids in the middle and bottom of the order that had quality at-bats. They are coming through and getting the job done. They helped us out today.”
Weston-McEwen took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Langford hit her first home run and Hope Berry scored on an error.
Oakland put up three runs in the third for a 3-2 lead, but the TigerScots got one run back in the bottom of the inning off a Ward RBI double.
Weston-McEwen scored once in the fifth, then exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.
The TigerScots had hitters six, seven, eight and nine coming up, but they did their job to get W-M to the top of their lineup.
Hallie Burns hit a single, then a trio of freshmen — Georgianna Morris, Genevieve VanHouten and Evelyn Hodgson — all did their part in putting a run across the plate and getting to the top of the lineup with just one out.
Lead-off hitter Megan McLouth drew a walk, then Langford smacked a three-run home run for a 9-3 lead.
Berry followed with a double, and Ward blasted a two-run over to center field to make it 11-3.
“The froshies did a good job for us today,” Griggs said. “I’m proud of the seniors. They are leading in a lot of ways and helping the younger kids.” Ward pitched a complete game, allowing three runs, one hit and walked four.
