TigerScots split games at Spring Break Bash

LA GRANDE — Sophia Navarette threw a one-hitter with 19 strikeouts, and Bailey Blake hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning, as Vale beat Weston-McEwen 9-0 on Friday at the Spring Break Bash.

“Going into the Vale game, we knew we were facing an excellent pitcher and good hitting squad,” W-M coach Jeff Griffs said.

Lily Langford stole a no-hitter from Navarette with a single down the third base line in the seventh inning.

Bre Ward took the loss for the TigerScots, allowing nine runs on five hits while striking out 16 and walking eight.

WESTON-MCEWEN 13, UMPQUA VALLEY CHRISTIAN 0 — Lily Langford hit two triples and drove in five runs, and Bre Ward pitched a two-hit shutout over four innings as the TigerScots beat the Monarchs at the Spring Break Bash.

“I was proud of our team for fighting through the frustrations of being manhandled at the plate (against Vale),” W-M coach Jeff Griggs said. “They bounced right back to take the lead and extend it inning by inning with quality at-bats and aggressive base running.” 

After a scoreless first, Weston-McEwen (4-1) scored seven runs with two outs in the second inning.

Langford hit a two-run single to start things off, followed by a pin off a passed ball and an RBI single by Ward. Hallie Burns hit an RBI single, and two more runs scored on errors for a 7-0 lead.

The TigerScots scored one run in the third, then tacked on five runs in the fourth, highlighted by a three-run triple by Langford.

Ward and Hope Berry each had two hits for the TigerScots.

Hailee Tabor took the loss for UVC, giving up 13 runs on 15 hits while striking out six and walking three.
