UMATILLA — Wyatt Parson is still the fastest man in Eastern Oregon.
The Weston-McEwen senior ran a 10.94 to win the 100 meters at the River’s Edge Invite on Friday. He was the only runner under 11 seconds.
Parsons then teamed up with Tristan Weseman, Logan Ray and Colby Perkins to win the 4×100 relay with a season-best time of 44.05. The time also is tops among all 2A schools in the state.
Parsons joined Dayton Monaco, Ray and Weseman in the 4×400 relay, where they placed third with a time of 3:35.86.
Parsons was also second in the long jump with a leap of 20-8.
With his four events, Parsons helped earn 34 points for the TigerScots, who finished third in the team standings with 71.33 points. La Grande won the title with 156.33 points, followed by Baker with 122.5. Umatilla was fifth (46.33), while Irrigon was eighth (28.5), Riverside ninth (23), Mac-Hi 12th (11), Ione 16th (8) and the Pendleton JV tied for 16th (6).

Arden Shaul placed third in the 3,000 for the TigerScots with a PR of 9:10.78, just a step behind the top two placers from La Grande. Michael White finished eighth in the 300 hurdles (46-78).
In the field events, Jace Dunlap was second in the javelin with a toss of 140-6, and he was fourth in the shot put with a personal best mark of 48-7 1/2.
Monaco tied for third in the high jump at 5-10, while Weseman was eighth (5-8). Weseman was also third in the long jump (20-4). Perkins added a fourth-place finish in the pole vault (9-0), while White was sixth (8-6).
The Weston-McEwen girls had a highly successful day as Addy Hall won both hurdle events, was second in the 100 and fourth in the long jump, earning 33 of the TigerScots’ 88 points.
La Grande won the girls’ team title with 178.5 points, while Baker (110) was second and Enterprise (90.5) was third. Weston-McEwen was fourth, while Mac-Hi (49.5) was fifth, Umatilla (43) was sixth, Riverside (16) tied for seventh, the Pendleton JV (12.5) was ninth, and Pilot Rock (9) was 12th.
Hall won the 100 hurdles in a time of 16.32, and the 300s in a time of 47.30, about 2 1/2 seconds ahead of the No. 2 runner. In the 100, Hall had a personal best time of 12.98 — the first time she has run over 13 seconds. In the long jump, Hall had a leap of 15-4.
Charlotte Hansell found success in the horizontal jumps, winning the triple jump with a PR of 33-2. She also was third in the long jump with a PR of 15-7 1/2.
In the shot put, TigerScots Sydney Carey (33-5 3/4) and Miley Garrett (30-6) finished third and fourth, while Elsie Sprenger was seventh (28-0).
Carey (82-8), Garrett (80-3) and Sprenger (77-2) placed sixth, seventh and eighth in the discus, while Carey was fourth in the javelin (86.9). Bree Perkins was seventh in the high jump (4-6) and fifth in the triple jump (29-7 1/2).
Brooklyn Parker, Stella Wolf, Perkins and Hansell teamed up to finish fifth in the 4×100 relay with a time of 54.95.

Softball
PENDLETON WINS 2 — The Bucks ran their win streak to three games with wins over Gladstone and Sweet in The Dalles.
“We still need to work on our defense and a few other aspects of the game,” Pendleton coach Tim Cary said. “All in all, it was a good day. Anytime you get two wins, it’s a good day.”
Seventh-ranked Pendleton opened the day with a 7-4 victory over Gladstone, with the help of a three-run home run by Finley Evans in the second inning that gave the Bucks a 4-0 lead.
Katelyn Boatman later added an RBI single in the second for a 5-0 lead.
The Gladiators scored two runs in the second and added one run in the sixth and seventh innings, but could not catch the Bucks.
Pendleton added one run in the fourth off a solo home run by Avery Quaempts, and one in the sixth off a Boatman RBI double.
Shaylor Fisher picked up the win, allowing four runs on five hits while striking out six and walking four.
Maryn Broker went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored for the Bucks, while Boatman went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Maycee Terry took the loss for the No. 10 Gladiators, giving up six runs on six hits with one strikeout and six walks.
Pendleton finished the day with a 6-3 win over Sweet Home as Broker hit a pair of doubles and drove in three runs.
The Bucks took a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Broker drove in a run with a double to left field, and Boatman hit an RBI single.
The Huskies tied the score in the top of the fourth, but the Bucks came back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 6-2 lead.
Broker started the scoring with a two-run double, and Kelsi Primus hit a two-out, two-run single to give Pendleton a comfortable lead.
Sweet Home managed one run in the top of the seventh, but would leave a runner stranded as the next two batters flew out and grounded out to end the game.
Evans hit two doubles for Pendleton (9-4), while Primus had two RBIs.
Broker pitched a complete game for the win, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out four and walking two.
“Both pitchers did a very nice job today,” Cary said. We also did a nice job finding ways to score early in the game.”
Katriona Harris took the loss for the Huskies, giving up six runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and four walks.
WESTON-MCEWEN 12-3, UNION/COVE 9-0 — Bre Ward hit three home runs and earned the win in both games on her 18th birthday as the TigerScots swept the Ladycats on the road in Blue Mountain Conference action.
“I was pretty concerned about going over there,” W-M coach Jeff Griggs said. “Others thought we had it in the bag, I did not. Look what we had to overcome with all the free passes today. We needed those 12 runs to win.”
In the opener, Ward hit a two-run home in the top of the fifth inning to give the TigerScots a 4-3 lead. In the sixth, Lily Langford hit a three-run homer for a 7-3 lead
Weston-McEwen (9-2 overall, 5-1 BMC) put together a five-run seventh inning. Hope Berry blasted a two-run homer to left field, and Ward finished off the scoring with a two-run home run to center field.
Ward went 4-for-5 with six RBIs, while Berry was 4-for-5 with two RBIs, and Langford 2-for-5 with three RBIs.
Ward had 13 strikeouts for the game, but gave up nine runs on six hits and walked an uncharacteristic 14 batters.
Jenna Johnson went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs for the Ladycats (7-4, 1-3), while Karli Satterfield was 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Johnson also took the loss, allowing 12 runs on 15 hits with eight strikeouts and one walk.
In the second game, Ward hit a solo home run in the first inning, and Reagan Pickard hit a two-run shot in the fourth to account for the remaining runs of the game.
Ward pitched a four-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts and eight walks.
Hayden Gregory, Johnson, Kathleen Baldwin and Brooklyn Murphy all had hits for the Ladycats. Johnson took the loss again, allowing three runs in seven hits while striking out two and walking one.
“I think our league is tough,” Griggs said. “We both had equal records (7-2) going in and we were playing at their place. They have a good little program. It’s a big sweep for us.”
Baseball
WESTON-MCEWEN 11-3, PILOT ROCK 4-18 — The TigerScots picked up their first win of the season with an 11-4 home win over the Rockets in the first game of their Blue Mountain Conference doubleheader.
Weston-McEwen broke open a close game with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning — four with two outs — to take an 11-4 lead.
The first run scored on a fly out by Quentin Sincleir, while the next came on an error. The next came on a bases-loaded walk, and then a passed ball. The TigerScots scored their last run on a balk by Pilot Rock pitcher Lucas Thieme.
Sincleir hit a double and drove in three runs for the TigerScots (1-7 overall, 1-5 BMC), who took advantage of seven Pilot rock errors and seven walks. Bennett Cavalletto picked up the win, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out five and walking one.
Tucker Holton went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for the Rockets, while Tate Thacker was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Thacker took the loss, allowing five runs on three hits over 2 2/3 innings.
In the second game, the Rockets (6-4, 4-2) got back on track, breaking open a tie game with four runs in the second inning, and many more to come after that.
In the second, the Rockets scored on a passed ball, Carter VanHouten put two across the plate with a double, and one run scored on a Gage Williams fly out.
Pilot Rock had a big fourth inning with six runs, highlighted by a two-run single by Holton and an RBI double by Williams.
Holton went 4-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, while Williams drove in three runs. The Rockets took advantage of five errors and 10 walks.
William earned the win, allowing three runs on three hits while striking out eight and walking three.
Angel Romero had two hits and an RBI for the TigerScots.
PENDLETON 14-21, ONTARIO 0-0 — The Bucks outscored the Tigers 35-0 over two games as they opened Greater Oregon League League play on the road.
In the first game, Grayson English went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and three RBIs for the Bucks, who also got a one-hit shutout with eight strikeouts over four innings from Colin Harrington.
Pendleton (9-6 overall, 2-0 GOL) opened the scoring with a run in the first inning, then added four in the second, two in the fourth and seven in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
In the top of the fifth, English hit a two-run double, Vance Nelson and Reid Furstenberg hit RBI singles, and Harrington brought in a run with a bases-loaded walk. The Bucks scored their last run on an error — one of four for the Tigers.
Furstenberg and Eli Smidt each drove in two runs, while Nelson hit a triple and Tugg McQuinn had two stolen bases.
In the nightcap, Pendleton belted out 20 hits and played error-free defense for its seventh win in a row.
Nelson led the way for the Bucks, going 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
Furstenberg earned the win, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out seven and walking two. Kolt McQuinn pitched a scoreless fifth, striking out two.
Pendleton led 10-0 after the third inning, then added 10 more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth to slam the door on the Tigers.
In the fourth, all 10 runs came with two outs. The first run scored on an error with the bases loaded, then Nelson put two runs across with a single to left field.
Smidt and Kreg Krol hit back-to-back RBI singles for a 15-0 lead. Riley Williams and Emery Kordatzky hit RBI singles, Furstenberg added a two-run single, and Keli Spencer added a bases-loaded walk for a 20-0 lead.
Joe Foster hit an RBI single to center field in the fifth to end the scoring.
Furstensberg and Nate Driskell each drove in three runs for the Bucks.
Boys tennis
THE DALLES 4, PENDLETON 0 — The Bucks’ Sam Larsen suffered just his second loss of the season as Dante Kim handed him a 6-4, 6-2 loss at No. 1 singles to lead the Riverhawks to a road win.
Larsen, a freshman, is 7-2 on the year.
Jonathan Rodriguez followed with a 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
In doubles, the Riverhawks’ Jesus Chavez and Zack Pothier beat Ben Larsen and Will Larsen 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 1 match, while Gunderson Emmett and Julian Rodriguez took care of Henry Pullen and Jordan Hantke 6-0, 6-1.
