MISSION — The Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) Capital Improvements Committee (CIC) invites CTUIR community members to provide feedback on future capital improvement projects.
The committee has posted planned and potential capital improvement projects on an interactive online webmap. Community members can use the webmap to view project information and submit comments on individual projects.
According to the committee’s press release, capital projects are larger development projects that provide services, protect resources, and improve the community. There is a range of projects, including housing, community services, recreation, natural resources and economic development.
“Major capital projects can take years to plan and implement, so some of the projects on the list are projected for future development in the long term or medium term, while other projects are in process or will start within the next couple of years,” the release stated.
Many projects depend on available grant funding or other funding programs, the release noted. The Board of Trustees also allocates money to prioritized projects on a case-by-case basis after reviewing feasibility studies and preliminary cost estimates.
Updates for projects already underway reflect changes in their status.
This year’s list also includes three proposed projects to address previously identified needs:
- Purchase and renovate the former Seventh-day Adventist School and Church for early childhood education.
- Purchase the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife facility at Mission Road and Mytinger Lane for the Department of Natural Resources’ shop facilities.
- Mitigate flooding on Confederated Way in the July Grounds based on recommendations from a completed engineering analysis.
Community members can click the link to access the interactive webmap, view information about individual capital improvement projects and submit comments. Those without internet access can provide feedback by contacting the Tribal Planning Office at 541-276-3099 or TPO@ctuir.org.
Community members with questions about a project, or who want to propose a project not included on the list, can contact the Tribal Planning Office and complete a New Project Application form.
Public input on the capital improvement projects will be gathered through July.
