Tribal Environmental Recovery Facility Announces Temporary Closure Due to Fire

MISSION, OR – The Tribal Environmental Recovery Facility (TERF), owned by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR), has announced a temporary closure due to a fire on May 22, 2021. Commercial and residential routes for solid waste service will continue on schedule, however no self-hauling or onsite services will be available until further notice.

The fire was reported Saturday afternoon and property damage is still being assessed. There were no injuries reported. Umatilla Tribal Fire Department, along with Pendleton Fire Department, East Umatilla Fire and Rescue, and Pilot Rock Fire Department responded to the fire.

Operations Manager Ashley Picard said that TERF will post notices on social media and at terf.ctuir.org when they are able to resume services.

TERF Is located in Coyote Business Park at Exit 216 on Interstate 84 and offers waste management and recycling services. It is open to the public, five days a week.
