Redmond uses big second half to beat Pendleton

PENDLETON — Pendleton played right with Redmond in the first half, but the Panthers, the top-ranked 5A team, pulled away in the second half for a 68-42 nonleague win Friday at Warberg Court.

“The girls played hard and competed well tonight,” Pendleton coach Tim Foster said. “Redmond should be a final four team this year. They have size, speed and shooting. We’ve struggled with slow starts recently, but we came ready to play tonight. We did well handling their pressure, kept the ball moving and knocked down open shots.”

Redmond (10-1) opened the game with a 21-17 lead, and turned that into a 27-20 lead at the half.

Freshman Kodee Kimball scored 12 of her 21 points in the third quarter as the Panthers opened up a 52-34 lead.

Freya Snow had four of her 11 points in the fourth as the Panthers went on a 16-8 run to close out the game.

Presley Greenwalt led the Bucks (6-7) with 12 points, while Khimora Scott and Rylee Jackson each had eight, and Chais Surber seven.

“Chais had one of her best outings of the season,” Foster said. “She brings us great leadership and energy every night. Rylee and Khim did well attacking, and Presley knocked down timely 3s to keep us in it. Eventually, they wore us down and opened up a bigger lead, but overall, I was happy with the way we played. If we approach every game the way we did tonight, we’ll be in good shape moving forward.”

Bergen Porter and Addison Ring added 10 points each for the Panthers.
