Pendleton 3-0 to open Oregon Classic

REDMOND — Pendleton went 3-0 on the first day of the Oregon Classic in Redmond, and will wrestle at 1 p.m. Saturday in the quarterfinals.

“We didn’t look our best today, but we were good enough to win our pool,” Pendleton coach Trevor Hancock said. “Tomorrow, we need to be better.”

The Bucks, who are 15-1 in duals this season, will take on Scappoose in the quarterfinals.

Pendleton opened action Friday with a 68-12 win over Mazama, collecting four forfeits and eight pins.

Vance Nelson had the fastest pin of the match for the Bucks, needing just 16 seconds to take down and pin Anthony Idrogo at 175 pounds.

Aidan Perkins was right behind Nelson, pinning Trystan Beeman in their 190-pound match in 24 seconds.

Pendleton’s Carter Northern also needed less than a minute to pin Hadyn Tussy at 144, recording the win in 53 seconds.

The Bucks followed with a 65-18 victory over North Marion, this time recording five forfeits from 157 to 285.

Also recording pins for the Bucks were Wesley Browning (106), Aiden Cox (120), Jordan Hantke (132) and Northern (144). Cole Roy registered a 15-0 technical fall at 150 over Kiegun Mosqueda.

Pendleton won Pool B with a 40-28 victory over Tillamook, winning all but one match from 150-285.

The Cheesemakers won five of seven bouts from 106 to 144 to open the match, but it was all Pendleton from there.
