About us

The Confederated Umatilla Journal (CUJ) is an award-winning monthly print publication of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, based in Eastern Oregon. Every first Thursday of the month, we share news, sports and features that matter to the community.

Across Eastern Oregon and neighboring Washington, the CUJ brings to life the stories, culture, and resilience of our community. Rooted in integrity and respect, it’s a trusted news source for our tribal members and surrounding communities.

Founded in 1975, the CUJ has spent over fifty years chronicling the culture, stories and achievements of the Umatilla Reservation. Following a pause in the mid-1980s, the CUJ was relaunched in 1994 and has been a unifying voice for the community and a trusted new source.

With every print edition and online publication, the CUJ preserves the stories and heritage of the CTUIR community and carries the voices of our ancestors forward into future generations.
