ATHENA — Long rallies, powerful kills and diving saves were happening all over the court Tuesday night as their-ranked Heppner pulled out a 25-21, 25-11, 23-25, 25-16 Blue Mountain Conference victory over rival Weston-McEwen.
“I’m very proud of how the girls performed tonight,” Heppner coach Mindy Wilson said. “Even when things got tough, we reset and moved onto the next ball.”
The seventh-ranked TigerScots fell to 1-2 in conference play, with both losses to the Mustangs.
“It was a game of unforced errors and we had too many to come out on top,” Weston-McEwen coach Marie Cain said. “Unfortunate, but we will come back from it stronger.”
Junior Isa Payne led Heppner (15-2 overall, 3-0 BMC) with 17 kills, 33 digs and two aces, while Catherine Lindsay had 12 kills and six blocks, Maya Payne 29 assists and 13 digs, Olivia Ogden 24 digs, three kills and two aces, Cici Stefani 21 digs, Avree Lathrop 13 digs and two aces, and Healy Hisler 10 digs and two aces.
As a team, the Mustangs served at 94.3% with eight aces.
“We have been focusing on our defense and it showed tonight,” Wilson said. “Offensively, we played tough at the net. We were able to utilize all hitters on the court.”
For the TigerScot (9-4 overall), Charlotte Hansell led the way with 19 kills, 19 digs and one block, while Addy Hall had 20 digs and 33 assists, Eloise Hansell five kills, 18 digs and one ace, Reagan Pickard six kills, five digs and one block, Bree Perkins 18 digs, and Megan McLouth 14 digs.
PENDLETON 3, BAKER 0 — The Bucks remained perfect in the Great Oregon League standings with a 25-15, 25-20, 25-15 road win over the Bulldogs at Peacock Court.
“We played well as a team,” Pendleton coach Jodi Primus said. “Our offense did a good job of mixing up our offense and all hitters contributed well. Defensively, we serve received and dug really well.”
Caitlin Cooley handout 27 assists for Pendleton (9-9 overall, 3-0 GOL), while Kelsi Primus had 11 kills and a 52% kill percentage, Braelyn Gunter had 12 kills with a 48% kill percentage, McKinley Moore 27 digs, MJ Gomez 13 digs, McKinley Lieuallen 17 points and four aces, Kalia Ward four blocks, and Addie Willman eight assists.
As a team, the Bucks had 45 kills.
“Addie Came in off the bench and set for us in sets two and three,” Primus said. “That’s a lot of pressure on a young setter who doesn’t get a lot of opportunities, but she handled it well. I was really proud of the energy and heart that we showed as a whole team. Everyone was supportive, positive and worked hard.”

RIVERSIDE 3, PILOT ROCK 1 — The Pirates dug themselves in a hole by losing the first set, but they rallied for a10-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-16 road win over the Rockets.
Kasey Salgado led Riverside (5-12) with 12 assists, six kills, eight digs and three aces, while Darlene Castaneda had 17 digs, three kills, five assists and six aces, and Jazzlyn Reyna had 28 digs, eight aces, six assists and three kills.
For the Rockets (4-7), Gracee Hemphill had 15 digs, five kills and two blocks, while Jada Deist had four kills and four aces, Abbigail Johnson had 48 digs and three aces, Stevee Osborn had four kills and Kessa Litfin had 14 assists and one block.
“The girls played hard tonight and I’m proud of them,” Pilot Rock coach Shelby Journot said. “Didn’t come out with the W, but good ball was played.”
Boys soccer
BAKER 4, PENDLETON 1 — Miles Johnson had a goal, and Thor Case made seven saves, but it wouldn’t be enough as the Bucks (1-5-1 overall, 0-2-1 GOL) dropped a Greater Oregon League road game to the Bulldogs.
Baker led 2-1 at the half, then got goals from Danny Duran-Puente and Kane Hellberg in the second half to secure the win.
“It was close throughout the majority of the game,” Pendleton coach Kaden Clark said. “Proud of the way they battled. We are excited for the opportunity to play them again in a couple of weeks at home.”
Girls soccer
BAKER 2, PENDLETON 1 — Serenity Taft scored off an assist by Naomi Lopez, but that was the only goal the Bucks managed against the Bulldogs in a hard-fought Greater Oregon League home loss.
The loss brought Pendleton to 2-5 overall and 1-2 in the GOL.
