TigerScots go 2-1 at Heppner Tournament

HEPPNER — Weston-McEwen went 2-1 on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the Heppner Tournament, dropping its only match to Powder Valley.
“We had a good day today,” W-M coach Marie Cain said. “We served well. Mya (Bryan) had 10 aces on the day, and Charlotte (Hansell) had 13.”
The TigerScots (5-4) opened with a 25-19, 25-22, 25-15 victory over Kennedy, then beat Vernonia 25-17, 25-10, 25-12.
Powder Valley needed four sets to beat W-M, rallying for a 16-25, 25-21, 25-17, 25-19 victory.
“Powder Valley was a good match for us,” Cain said. “Tough loss, but good volleyball.”
In the match against the Badgers, Hansell had 11 kills, five aces and eight digs, while Addy Hall had seven kills and two aces, and Kylie Kramer 20 digs.
CASCADE TOURNAMENT — Pendleton went 2-1 in pool play, but lost its first match in bracket play to make an early exit in Turner.
The Bucks beat Sweet Home (25-18, 25-19) and Seaside (25-11, 25-9) in pool play, while falling to Valley Catholic 25-9, 25-13.
In bracket play, Pendleton (2-2) dropped a 26-24, 25-16 match to Cascade.
On the day, Josie Jenness handed out 50 assists to go along with eight kills, eight digs and three aces. Avery Brown added 16 kills and seven blocks, while Nicole Somnis had 15 kills and three blocks, Finley Evans had 12 digs, Nessa Neveau had nine digs and three aces, Lexie Willman had 10 kills, and Kelsi Primus had nine kills.
TIGERSCOTS CROSS-COUNTRY
Weston-McEwen’s Arden Shaul finished third in the junior varsity 1A-4A race at the Ultimook Race at Hydrangea Ranch in Tillamook.
Shaul turned in a time of 19 minutes, 32.50 seconds to lead the TigerScots, who did not field a complete team.
Andres Orozco Stansbery of R.A. Long in Longview (WA) won the race with a time of 18:05.51.
Also running for W-M were Tristan Weseman (10th, 20:13.19), Trysten Burns (104th, 24:24.12) and Aidan Aldrich (156th, 27:50.31).
In the girls junior varsity 1A-4A race, the TigerScots saw Brynn Brownie place 12th with a time of 26:23.12, with teammate Alethea Bond right behind in 13th place (26:24.04). Miranda Martin crossed the finish line in 58th place with a time of 32:09.02.
Brooke McDaniel of Philomath won the race with a time of 23:20.52.
