HERMISTON — Weston-McEwen and Nixyáawii were two of the smallest schools in the boys varsity field at the Runners Soul Fest on Saturday, Sept. 14, but the TigerScots and Golden Eagles held their own against some of the top programs in Oregon and Washington.
W-M’s Arden Shaul led the way, finishing 45th with a time of 19:50.44, while Nixyáawii’s Sun Schimmel was 52nd in a time of 20:01.48.
Tristan Weseman of W-M was 53rd (20:05.57), followed by teammates Trysten Burns (87th, 22:32.99) and Aidan Aldrich (105th, 27:56.91).
Wyatt Withers was 95th with a time of 23:06.10 for the Golden Eagles.
Kamiakin’s Ezra Teeples won the race with a time of 15:55.08, with Hermiston’s Jaysen Rodriguez second at 16:05.59.
Kamiakin won the team title with 20 points, while Hermiston was second with 51.
The Weston-McEwen girls had a contingent of two runners — Brynn Brownie was 72nd (28:28.74), and Alethea Bond was 74th (28:31.46).
Zoey Moon of West Valley (Yakima) won the race with a time of 19:58.34. Medical Lake, Washington, won the team title with 72 points, with Kamiakin second with 73 points. Nixyáawii’s Johnny Goodrider ran in the girls junior varsity race, finishing 97th with a time of 38:09.92.
