CTUIR seeking community input on road safety improvements

MISSION – The Planning and Public Works departments of the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) are seeking community input on road and roadway safety concerns that may be addressed by the Tribal Transportation Safety Program grant fund.

The survey is collecting information from the community about locations of safety concern on the Umatilla Indian Reservation.

“Some examples are sidewalks and bike lanes that reduce the chances of walkers on the shoulder getting hit, reflective arrows that show drivers when they’re approaching a curve in the dark and rumble strips on the pavement that alert the driver when they’re drifting out of the lane,” said CTUIR Transportation Planner Dani Schulte. “They’re small grants with big impacts on reducing the severity of crashes.”

Other possible improvements may be neighborhood scaled roundabouts, digital speed signs, rail crossing safety improvements and reflective signs and markers for nighttime visibility.

Deadline to respond and voice your concerns and recommendations in the plan is Sept. 25.
