Weston-McEwen ekes out road win over Mac-Hi

MILTON-FREEWATER —Charlotte Hansell had nine kills, and Weston-McEwen escaped with a 20-25, 25-10, 25-21, 22-25, 15-12 nonleague road win Tuesday, Sept. 17, over McLoughlin.

“I’m proud of how the girls pulled out the win tonight,” W-M coach Marie Cain said. “They worked through some ups and downs, but came together in the end.”

W-M had a 2-1 lead over Mac-Hi before the Pioneers pulled even with a 25-22 win in the fourth set.

“This was a great game for us, even if we lost,” Mac-Hi coach Kassidy Ruiz said. “We dug ourselves out of some deep holes and came out with two wins. Other than the second set, the scores were close and it was entertaining to watch both teams compete the way they did.”

Bre Ward, Delaynee Angell and Addy Hall each added six kills, Mya Bryan had four aces, and Kylie Kramer had 13 digs and five aces for the TigerScots (7-5).

Miley Rhoads led the Pioneers (7-4) with 11 kills and two blocks, Addy Brown had 10 assists, three aces and three digs, Abi Perkins five aces and three assists, Maddie Stiefel had four kills, Maritza Ruvalcaba three aces and six digs, and Emily Arroyo had two aces, two kills and three digs.
