Gold Beach opened the scoring in the first quarter, but it was all Weston-McEwen from there until halftime.

“The girls had so much fun today and played lots of volleyball,” W-M coach Marie Cain said. “Proud of how they responded to adversity and kept fighting.”

The TigerScots (10-5 overall) were down two sets against Lowell before winning the fourth set 30-28 to force a fifth set, which they won 15-13.

“We came out aggressive taking the first set,” Cain said. “Addy Hall was a big player at the net hitting some great balls. In Game 4, we dug ourselves a pretty deep hole, but an aggressive serving run by Delaynee (Angell) brought us back in it and we battled to close out the win.”

Angell finished the match with nine kills, 21 digs and five aces, while Charlotte Hansell had nine kills, 14 digs and two aces. Hall and 12 kills and 11 digs, Kylie Kramer had 27 digs, Mya Bryan six aces and Bri Ward four kills.

Umpqua Valley Christian made W-M earn every point of their four-set win.

“We started out slow against Umpqua, losing the first set,” Cain said. “The next three we battled hard and came back fighting to close out the match.”

Hansell had seven kills, 10 digs and five aces for W-M, followed by Bryan with 11 digs and four aces, Bri Ward with six kills, Kramer with 20 digs, Hall had nine kills and six digs, and Angell had five kills, five digs and four aces.

The Bucks beat Cottage Grove 25-9, 21-25, 17-15 to open bracket play, then met Burns once again, where the Hilanders posted a 25-14, 25-18 victory.

“We struggled today to play as well as we have lately, and looked very tired,” Pendleton coach Jodi Primus said. “We played well against Cottage Grove, which was a good win for us.”

On the day, Lexie Willman led the Bucks with 25 kills and two solo blocks, while Jose Jenness had 56 assists and 20 digs. Finley Evans had 29 digs, and Sophie Nelson had a 1.5/3 serve receive score.

Primus singled out Caitlin Cooley for her role as a setter and stepping up where she was needed.

The Bucks (6-3 overall) will open Greater Oregon League play Thursday, hosting Ontario.

“We started off pretty strong in the first set with Imbler, but struggled with our serve receive the next two sets,” Pilot Rock coach Jen Porter said. “Imbler is a solid team. Aubrey Corwin, Jade Deist and Kessa Litfin did really well defensively.”

Litfin had seven digs, six assists and an ace for the Rockets (2-9 overall, 1-3 OOL), while Corwin added 10 digs and three kills, Deist had seven digs, and Lillie Holman had four kills.

Against Cove, Coley Gibbs had 31 digs and five aces, while Abbigail Johnson had 15 digs, Kashley Golden seven kills and two blocks, and Litfin 14 digs and four aces. Corwin chipped in 11 assists and five kills.

“We played really well against Cove,” Porter said. “The first three sets were really close. Lots of long rallies and great plays. By the time we got to the fourth set, we just lost our steam. I was proud of how they played. We are continuing to improve each week. We are going to focus on consistency and are looking forward to our matches next week.”
