PILOT ROCK — Junior Tyler Campbell ran for three touchdowns and threw for another as Echo rolled over Pilot Rock 50-6 in Special District 3 action Friday, Sept. 26.

“He was sick last week and he came out and played well tonight,” Echo coach Thomas VanNice said. “He played quarterback and tailback — that is a huge double threat.”

Campbell, who ran for more than 150 yards, scored the first two touchdowns of the game, then Mack Murdock ran for a touchdown and had a pick-six for another and a 28-0 lead in the second quarter.

Campbell threw a touchdown pass to Murdock, then ran for a 50-yard touchdown for a 42-6 lead over the Rockets at the half.

Brayden Cortaberria added a rushing touchdown in the third for the Cougars (3-2 overall, 1-1 SD3).

For the Rockets (1-3, 0-1), Lucas Thieme caught a 26-yard touchdown pass from Gage Williams, who stepped in at quarterback after Carter VanHouten got injured in the second quarter.

Before he got hurt, VanHouten had six tackles. Tucker Holton led Pilot Rock with eight tackles, and Williams had six.

“I was proud of the way our boys played tonight,” PR coach Shane Munkers said. “Although the scoreboard didn’t show it, they played pretty good.”

Defensively for Echo, Baylin Holloway had an interception, Creedence Bruce had a quarterback sack, and Cortaberria had six tackles.
