MISSION – Three years removed from her last stint with the Confederated Umatilla Journal, Miranda Vega Rector has returned as a temporary reporter through mid-July.

A member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, Vega Rector is a former Native American Journalist Association award winner who took a hiatus from journalism following the birth of her daughter.

“We’re very excited to get Miranda back on the team,” Editor Cary Rosenbaum said. “She has the experience, perspective and passion we’re looking for. We hope she will continue to be a fixture for the CUJ in the future.”

Vega Rector, of Hermiston, said she is excited to rejoin the Tribal newspaper.

“It’s exciting to be back in Mission working for the Tribe, doing what I enjoy. It’s almost like I never left, ” she said. “I can’t wait to start attending community events once the COVID restrictions lower.”
