Bucks beat Redmond, run win streak to 3 game

REDMOND — Pendleton used the inside-outside attack of Jubal Hoisington and Dillon Elrod to beat 5A Redmond 68-57 for its third win in a row.

“That’s what we call a winning streak,” Pendleton coach Ron Murphy said. “Great win for our boys. It was a game we started a little slow, but after the first, we got our legs under us and started attacking. Great job by everybody who played.”

Redmond took an early lead of 14-9 in the first quarter, but once the Bucks got rid of their bus legs, they came to life in the second.

Elrod and Hoisington each had six points in the second as Pendleton went on a 22-15 run to take a 31-29 lead at the half. The Bucks stretched their lead to 53-45 after three.

“We’ve improved,” Murphy said. “We were so inexperienced with varsity players at the beginning of the year that it took us longer to understand the game and be varsity players. We still have a long way to go to get to that ceiling.”

Elrod finished with 17 points, while Hoisington had 15, Aaden Hernandez 13 and Zane Emry eight.

“Dillon shot the ball well today,” Murphy said. “Aaden was finally able to shoot the ball well, it has been a struggle for him.”

Wyatt Horner led the Panthers (2-10) with 26 points, while Mason Zampko added 16.

The Bucks (5-9) will host Baker in the Greater Oregon League opener for both teams Jan. 15.  “Sometimes you feel more comfortable on the road, but we have a few home games coming up,” Murphy said.
