W-M’s Parsons shines in first meet of the season

PENDLETON — Weston-McEwen’s Wyatt Parsons came out of the blocks on fire Wednesday, winning the 100 meters, placing third in the 200, and running a leg on the winning 4×100 relay team at the Pendleton Icebreaker.

Parsons turned in a time of 10.97 seconds to top the field in the 100. He was the lone runner under 11 seconds.

In the 200, Parsons was third (22.51) behind Pendleton’s John Thatcher (22.21) and Ben Hopkins (22.3).

Parsons ran the third leg on the 4×100 relay team that was a half-second ahead of Irrigon with a 45.06. Also on the team were Tristan Weseman, Colby Perkins and Logan Ray.

Weston-McEwen’s Arden Shaul leads the fast heat of the 1500 on March 18, 2026, at the Pendleton Icebreaker. Shaul, who held off Pendleton’s Jack Reynolds and Jonah Lyman, of Joseph, won in 4:20.22.

Thatcher (11.17) and Perkins (11.20) also were second and third in the 100, and helped the 4×400 relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 3:39.30, 8 seconds in front of Weston-McEwen (3:47.60). Also on the Bucks’ relay  team were Gabe DeGrofft and Brance McKay.

Ray, David Webb, Dayton Monaco and Weseman made up the TigerScots’ 4×400 team.

Weston-McEwen got a solid day’s work from Jace Dunlap in the field events. Dunlap won the shot put (44-10), the discus (124-1) and was third in the javelin with a personal best of 144-8.

Pendleton’s Jaren Yoshioka won the javelin with a PR of 165-8, with teammate Jubal Hoisington second with a PR of 161-6.

Ione’s Kyan Webb and Pendleton’s Grayson Mead tied for first in the long jump with leaps of 18-6. Mead also won the triple jump at 40-1.

Stanfield’s Israel Monkus tied for third in the long jump with Pendleton’s Adam Urbina at 18-2. 

Pendleton’s Hazel Case long jumps on March 18, 2026, at the Pendleton Icebreaker. Case took first with a leap of 16 feet, 3.75 inches.

Pilot Rock’s lone winner was Sun Schimmel in the 800 with a personal best time of 2:08.76, nearly 5 seconds ahead of Arden Shaul of Weston-McEwen. Shaul went on to win the 1,500 with a time of 4:20.22.

Pendleton’s Jack Reynolds won the 3,000, destroying the field with a time of 9:55.39. Teammate Eagle Edmiston was second with a 10:29.99.

In the girls’ meet, Weston-McEwen’s Addy Hall won the 100 with a time of 13.15, just a couple of steps in front of Pendleton’s Genevieve Christiansen (13.57). Hall also was second in the long jump (15-8.5) behind Pendleton’s Hazel Case (16-3.75).

Hall also ran a leg on the TigerScots’ 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams, each finishing second to Joseph.

In the 4×100, W-M’s team of Brooklyn Parker, Bree Perkins, Charlotte Hansell and Hall ran a 53.41. The same quartet turned in a time of 4:27.08 in the 4×400.

In the high jump, Pendleton’s Presley Greewalt had a PR of 5 feet to win the event, with teammate Ava Jackson second at 4-9.

Griswold’s Kallie Joe Campbell won the triple jump with a mark of 33-9.5, with Pendleton’s McKenzie Shelden second at 31-8.  Nixyaawii’s Emma Star-Nez finished third in the 1,500 (6:02.06), and was fourth in the 800 (2:52.19).
