Bucks win Pendleton Invite

PENDLETON — Sheldon Joseph shot one-under on the back one to finish tied for third and lead Pendleton to the team title Monday at the Pendleton Invite at The Golf Course at Birch Creek.

“The weather was pretty crappy and we didn’t start out well,” Pendleton coach Marc Sokoloski said. “They all did well on their last nine holes, but there’s still a lot of work to do. There are a lot of opportunities still left on the table. I know we haven’t hit our ceiling.”

The Bucks finished with a 321, followed by Baker (338) and Echo/Stanfield with a 351. Union was sixth with a 395, while Weston-McEwen did not field a complete team.

Prairie City’s Sawyer Quinton won medalist honors with a 74, followed by Baker’s Eli Long with a 75. Joseph, Tyler Campbell of Echo and Hermiston’s Colby Lerten tied for third with 77s.

“Sheldon had a good round, but what I’m most thrilled about is in our last three tournaments, we had three different guys with the top round,” Sokoloski said.

Joseph shot 43 on his first nine holes, but shot par on six holes and had two birdies for a 35 on the back nine.

Rounding out the scoring for the Bucks were Landon Neistadt, who was sixth with a 79, while Garret Reinhart, Cole Sazue and Bobby Bostwick all tied for seventh with an 82.

“We had five scores ranging from 77-82,” Sokoloski said. “This is Landon’s second week of shooting 78. If everyone can put together 18 holes, we are going to be pretty tough. Our depth is pretty deep compared to most teams.”

Rounding out the scoring for Echo were Cole Ayres (11th, 85), Tristan Horn (T16th, 91) and Owen Stafford (T22nd, 97).

Joey McCraw led Union, finishing tied for 16th with  91. He was followed by KJ Klebaum (T22nd, 97), Trenton Baremore (29th, 99) and Jace McCraw (38th, 108).

Theo Sprenger led the TigerScot, placing 37th with a 108. David Murphy was 49th with a 111.
