BAKER CITY — Pendleton made quick work of Baker on Friday with a pair of 11-0, 11-0 wins in Greater Oregon League action.
Pendleton (17-8 overall, 8-2 GOL) can still grab a share of the league title when they host La Grande on Thursday. The Tigers swept the Bucks on May 1.
In the opener against Baker (5-18, 2-8), Colin Harrington pitched a four-hit shutout through 5 2/3 innings, striking out six and walking three.
Pendleton scored seven runs in the top of the first inning, highlighted by RBI triples by Vance Nelson and Tugg McQuinn, and a two-run double by Keli Spencer.
The Bucks scored three additional runs in the sixth, with Harrington hitting a solo home run, and Grayson English hitting an RBI single.
Spencer went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Harrington was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.
In the nightcap, Reid Furstenberg pitched four innings of no-hit ball with four strikeouts, and Vance Nelson pitched one inning of no-hit ball with two strikeouts.
Harrington went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the first inning, while Kolt McQuinn hit a three-run shot in the Bucks’ five-run third inning. Kreg Krol went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.
WESTON-MCEWEN 6-11, PINE EAGLE 5-14 — The TigerScots took an early lead, then held off a rally by the Spartans late in the game to win the first game of their Blue Mountain Conference doubleheader in Athena.
W-M (4-14 overall, 4-12 BMC) had a 6-2 lead after four innings, but Pine Eagle put together three runs in the top of the fifth to make things interesting.
Quinten Sincleir gave up one hit and four runs in four innings of work for W-M. He struck out 10.
Aidenn Mahaffey went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two stolen bases for the TigerScots, while Tim Taylor went 3-for-4.
In the second game, the Spartans jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the first inning and never let up to pick up their first win of the season.
Ezra Simpson had a double and drove in four runs for the Spartans, while Landon Harlan had two RBIs. Tevya Taylor picked up the win, going all seven innings with three strikeouts.
Tim Taylor, William Drennen and Bennett Cavalletto all drove in three runs for the TigerScots, While Angel Romero went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two stolen bases.
Softball
BAKER 1-9, PENDLETON 0-6 — The Bulldogs won the Greater Oregon League regular-season title for the first time since 2012 with a sweep of the visiting Bucks.
In the opener, Pendleton (13-9 overall, 3-3 GOL) and Baker (12-9, 5-3) were scoreless through five innings, but in the sixth, Grace Radabah hit a solo home run that would stand as the winning run for the Bulldogs.
Pendleton’s Shaylor Fisher allowed one run on six hits while striking out four and walking one.
For Baker, Reagan Ritter went the distance, giving up three hits while striking out nine and walking one.
Katelyn Boatman, Kelsi Primus and Cambria VanNice all had hits for the Bucks.
In the second game, the Bucks had a 6-5 lead after four innings, but the Bulldogs put together three runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to complete the sweep.
Avery Quaempts hit a solo home run in the top of the third to give Pendleton a 3-2 lead. Rylee Jackson had a double and two RBIs for the Bucks, while Maryn Broker took the loss. Macey Morgan and Colbi Bachman hit home runs for the Bulldogs.
