BAKER CITY — Pendleton picked up 40 of its points in the sprints to finish third in the boys’ team standings Friday at the Uriarte Invitational at the Baker Athletic complex.
Ben Hopkins won the 200 with a personal best time of 21.95 and the first time running under 22 seconds. He was also second in the 100 meters with a time of 11.05.
John Thatcher won the 400 in a time of 50.04, more than a second in front of the No. 2 runner. Adam Urbina was seventh in the 400 for the Bucks with a time of 53.48.
Quinn Kennedy joined Hopkins, Urbina and Thatcher to win the 4×100 relay in a time of 43.05, more than a second in front of second-place La Grande.
Jack Reynolds added a sixth-place finish in the 1,500 (4:21.62) for the Bucks, and was seventh in the 3,000 (9:47.83). Farley Hill was sixth in the 3,000 (9:47), and Ryan Simpson was seventh in the 300 hurdles with a PR of 44.80.
Jaren Yoshioka threw a personal best 171-11 1/4 to place second in the javelin, while Zeland Gardner was fifth in the pole vault (11-8 1/2) and Kennedy was eighth in the triple jump (38-1).
Weston-McEwen held back Wyatt Parsons, limiting him to the 100 meters, which he won with a time of 10.86, and the 4×100 relay, where the TigerScots were disqualified. Teammate Tristan Weseman was fifth in the 100 with a PR of 11.44.
The TigerScots got a third-place finish from Arden Shaul in the 1,500 (4:18.18), and Logan Ray was fifth in the 300 hurdles with a PR of 44.30.

In the field events, Jace Dunlap was sixth in the shot put (47-10 3/4) and eighth in the javelin (147-5 1/4).
Baker won the boys’ title with 108.5 points, just edging La Grande, which had 108. Pendleton finished with 63 points, while Imbler was sixth (36.5), Umatilla eighth (35), Weston-McEwen ninth (29), Union 10th (23), Riverside 13th (21.5) and Mac-Hi 15th (13).
While La Grande and Baker finished first and second in the points race, Imbler, Pendleton and Weston-McEwen were breathing down their necks all day.
In the girls’ 4×100 relay, one-half second separated the top three teams, with La Grande coming out on top with a time of 50.35. Imbler was second with a school record 50.69, and Pendleton was third at 50.86.
The Imbler team of Saviah Kunz, Whitney Haddock, Paige Braseth and Jeytt Cant broke the record of 50.90 set in 1986 by Crystal Hafer, Tami Huffman, Michelle Kilgore and Heidi Campbell (Bowers), who now coaches the Panthers.
Pendleton’s team consisted of Citlalli Garcia, Hazel Case, Landrie Davis and Genevieve Christiansen.
Case also finished second in the 100 (12.77) and the 200 with a PR of 26.46. Christiansen added a seventh-place showing in the 400 with a PR of 1:03.54.
In the field events, Braelyn Gunter was third in the javelin with a PR of 115-7 3/4, while McKinley Lieuallen was eighth (98-4 3/4). Paisley McLaughlin (4-9) and Ava Jackson (4-9) finished third and fourth in the high jump, while Kayle Smith was third in the pole vault (8-11 1/2), and Jackson third in the triple jump with a PR of 31-7.
Addy Hall earned big points for the TigerScots, winning the 100 hurdles (16.11), the 300 hurdles (47.50), and placing third in the 100 (13.00).
Charlotte Hansell added a fourth-place showing in the triple jump (31-1 1/4) and a fifth-place finish in the 300 hurdles with a PR of 51.37.
In the throws, Sydney Carey was third in the discus with a PR of 103-11 1/2, and third in the shot put with a PR of 35-3 1/4. La Grande won the team title with 101.7 points, while Baker was second with 97.2 and Joseph third with 88.7. Imbler was fourth (80), Pendleton fifth (53.5), Weston-McEwen sixth (47), Union seventh (36.5), Mac-Hi eighth (24.2), Umatilla 10th (17), Elgin 12th (16), Powder Valley 18th (6) and Riverside 20th (2).
