Parsons sets school record in 200 record at Kiwanis Invite

HERMISTON — Weston-McEwen’s Wyatt Parsons lined up in the blocks next to some of the best sprinters in Eastern Washington and came away with two gold medals Friday at the Kiwanis Twilight Invitational at Kennison Field.

Parsons won the 100 meters with a time of 10.91, just holding off Brady Jay from Moses Lake (10.97). They were the only two runners under 11 seconds.

Parsons then set a school record in the 200, winning the race with a personal best time of 22 seconds, just a step ahead of Gunner Smith of Kamiakin, who turned in a 22.13.

Parsons also teamed up with Tristan Weseman, Logan Ray and Colby Perkins to place fourth in the 4×100 relay with a time of 43.84 — their fastest time of the year and a new school record. 

Weseman also was second in the long jump with a PR of 21-1 1/2. Jace Dunlap held his own in the throws, placing third in the javelin with a PR of 159-4, and seventh in the shot put with a mark of 47-7.

The TigerScots’ 4×200 relay team of Perkins, Wesley Thomas, Michael White and Ray was seventh with a time of 1:38.69.

Pendleton’s John Thatcher also tasted success, winning the 400 meters with a time of 49.47 in a close battle with Smith, who ran a 49.51. Thatcher was also third in the 200 (22.41).

Bucks’ pole vaulter William Michael cleared 12-6 to finish second behind Hanford sophomore Jonathan Allen, who cleared 17-0 1/2 — a mark that ranks him eighth in the nation.

Also in the field events, Jaren Yoshioka was second in the javelin with a PR of 166-10, while teammate Jubal Hoisington was fifth (147-10). Grayson Mead was fifth in the triple jump with a PR of 41-7 1/4.

Pendleton found success in the relays as Quinn Kennedy, Ben Hopkins, Adam Urbina and Thatcher ran a 43.84 to place third in the  4×100, while Wyatt Taylor, Urbina, Hopkins and Thatcher were fourth in the 4×400 with a time of 3:29.86.

Taylor, Kyrael Davis, Easton Dressler and Kellen Villers ran a 1:39.02 to finish eighth in the 4×200.

Jack Reynolds stepped outside of his comfort zone and into the water to place fourth in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 11:05.30.

Hermiston won the boys’ team title with 146 points, with Kamiakin second with 102. Pendleton was seventh (57), while Weston-McEwen was eighth (44), Riverside 10th (23), Umatilla 11th (15) and Stanfield 13th (10).

In the girls’ meet, Chiawana ran away with the team title with 156  points. Kamiakin was a distant second with 131. Pendleton finished eighth with 42 points while Weston-McEwen was 10th (27), Umatilla 11th (20), Stanfield 12th (12) and Riverside 13th (6).

Hazel Case led the charge for Pendleton, finishing second in the long jump (16-3 1/4), third in the 100 (13.02) and the 200 with a PR of 26.64. She also teamed up with Citlalli Garcia, Landrie Davis and Genevieve Christiansen to place fifth in the 4×100 relay with a time of 51.78.

Davis also was seventh in the 100 (13.52), while McKinley Lieuallen was third in the javelin with a PR of 107-0, and Presley Greenwalt tied for fifth in the high jump at 4-8.

Evelyn Hayes and Avery Tynkila braved the 2,000 steeplechase with success. Hayes was fifth (8:59.02) and Tynkila was sixth (8:59.79).

Addy Hall was a big point earner for Weston-McEwen, placing second in the 300 hurdles with a PR of 46.63, fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.58), and fifth in the 100 (13.28). 

Charlotte Hansell jumped 31-8 1/2 to place sixth in the triple jump, and Sydney Carey was fifth in the shot put (32-5). The TigerScots’ 4×200 relay team of Brooklyn Parker, Joeslyn Flores, Bree Perkins and Hansell was sixth with a time of 1:57.88.
