Pilot Rock, Nixyaawii lose OOL district games

PILOT ROCK — Ashlee Meyers scored seven of her 15 points in overtime to lead Joseph to a 67-65 win over Pilot Rock in the first round of the Old Oregon League district tournament Tuesday night.

“Our girls played hard tonight,” Pilot Rock coach David Norton said. “We are not finished yet for the season. We will wait to see our state matchup next week.”

Joseph (7-15) will play Thursday against Powder Valley in the quarterfinals at Baker High School.

The teams were tied at 49-49 after regulation, and the action was fast and furious in overtime. 

The Eagles had a five-point lead before Kessa Litfin made a layup and a free throw to bring it to 67-65 with 45 seconds remaining.

“After that, we didn’t get a good look,” Norton said.

The Rockets (17-8) led 9-6 after the first quarter, and held a 22-21 lead at the half.

Joseph went on a 15-11 run in the third for a small lead, but Pilot Rock outscored the Eagles 16-13 in the fourth to tie the score and force overtime. Aubrey Corwin led the charge in the fourth with five points.

Hailey Severe led the Rockets with 15 points, while Litfin had 13 and Autumn Severe nine.

Rylee Meyers led the Eagles with 19 points, with Emmerson Hook adding 11 and Caleigh Johnson 10.

ELGIN 70, NIXYAAWII 46 — The Huskies used a balanced scoring attack for a home win over the Golden Eagles in the first round of the Old Oregon League district tournament.

Elgin (17-8) will play Thursday in the quarterfinals against Imbler at Baker High school. Nixyaawii finished its season with a 9-17 record.

Elgin led from the start, taking a 23-7 lead in the first quarter, and the Huskies held a 44-23 lead at the half.

Elgin outscored Nixyaawii 26-23 in the second half for its fourth win in a row.

Harley Myers led the Huskies with 15 points, eight rebounds and three steals, while Savannah Smith added 11 points and 10 rebounds, Kinley Williamson had 11 points, five rebounds and four steals, and Carly McLaughlin had 11 points, four assists and two steals.

Gracie Wilson and Cryssa Kirkie led the Golden Eagles with 11 points each, while Annalise Watchman and Liana Stewart each added nine points.
