Pendleton ends season with loss to Seaside

SEASIDE — Pendleton received a berth to the 4A state playoffs, but unfortunately for the Bucks, they had to make the trek to play No. 3 Seaside.

The Seagulls (20-5) got 16 points from Carly Corder, and 13 from Makenna White as they cruised to a 60-25 win Saturday afternoon over the Bucks to reach the state quarterfinals.

“We ran into a really good Seaside team that was firing on all cylinders,” Pendleton coach Tim Foster said. “We knew coming in we would have to limit turnovers and stay even in the rebounding battle, but we struggled in those areas. Presley (Greenwalt) and Rylee (Jackson) battled defensively and made their matchups work for buckets.”

Seaside will play Cowapa League foe St. Helens on March 12 at Forest Grove High School. The Seagulls lost both league games to the Lions.

Pendleton finished its season with a 12-15 record.

White scored eight of her points in the first quarter as Seaside jumped out to a 21-9 lead. The Seagulls stretched their lead to 38-14 at the half, with Corder scoring 10 points in a 17-5 run.

Seaside continued to pour in the points in the third, with Jahzara Marshall leading the way with five points.

Each team scored five points in the fourth as the Bucks wrapped up their season.

“In the end, Seaside’s press was too good and we couldn’t break it enough to get into any rhythm on offense,” Foster said. “Not the way we wanted to send them out, but we’re really proud and appreciative of what Katlyn (Boatman), Chais (Surber) and Avery (Quaempts) gave us this year and throughout their high school careers. They are great kids with bright futures and they’ve been fun to coach.”

Khimora Scott led the Bucks with 10 points, while Greenwalt had seven and Jackson four.
