BOARDMAN — Pilot Rock outscored Riverside 35-0 over eight innings of play to open the season with 19-0 and 16-0 wins Tuesday over the Pirates.
“They all played well together,” Pilot Rock coach Kyle Golden said. Everyone hit the ball up and down the lineup. We wanted them to play hard with intensity and not take their foot off the gas until I told them to.”
In the opener, Hailey Thieme went 3-for-3 with a grand slam in the third inning, while Hailey Severe went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Coley Gibbs picked up the win in the circle, striking out five in three innings.
In the nightcap, Stevee Osborne hit a two-run one run in the fourth inning, and Kashley Golden went 4-for-4 with a two-run double in the second inning, and hit an RBI single in the third.
Jada Deist struck out two in five innings to earn the win.
