Reinhart leads Pendleton at 4A State Preview

CRESWELL — Garret Reinhart shot par on 11 holes and finished with an 81 to lead Pendleton to third place at the Oregon 4A State Preview on Wednesday at Emerald Valley Golf Club.

“Overall, it was a good tournament for us to play in because they had the course set up in state conditions with very fast greens and heavy rough,” Pendleton coach Marc Sokoloski said. “Garret shot an 81, which was a very good round. For the first time this season, Landon (Neistadt) struggled a little and shot a 90.”

Tate Alire of Madras took medalist honors with a 75, with CJ Jones of Marist Catholic and Xanh Quang of Seaside second with a 78.

Marist Catholic won the team title with a 324, while St. Helens was second (343) and the Bucks third with a 346.

Also figuring into Pendleton’s scoring were Cole Sazue and Sheldon Joseph with an 88, and Hayden Bonifer with an 89.

“While the tournament exposed some deficiencies that I’ll need to prepare us for, I’m happy we got to see the course and I’m still optimistic for the state tournament,” Sokoloski said. “The one thing that can be taken out of the tournament is there’s about six teams that will be competing for those top spots. Tomorrow, we play at Meadow Lakes, which is another tough venue that will challenge some of the deficiencies I saw today.”
