PILOT ROCK — Stanfield’s Israel Monkus won three events and led the Tigers to the boys’ team title Thursday at the Rocket Invite at Smith Field.
Monkus ran a personal best 11.14 seconds in the 100 meters, then followed with a PR of 23.02 to win the 200 by more than one second over teammate Antonio Galindo (24.45), who also ran a personal best.
Monkus picked up his third gold medal with a personal best leap of 20-6 1/2 in the long jump. Monkus also teamed up with Galindo, Alex Ibarra and Jacob Crawford to place second in the 4×100 relay with a time of 46.48.
Stanfield compiled 157 points on the day, with the Pendleton JV second with 116, and South Wasco County third with 88. Griswold finished fourth (78), the host Rockets were fifth (61), Weston-McEwen was seventh (34), Echo eighth (16) and Nixyaawii ninth with two points.
Pendleton swept the pole vault, with freshman Mason Chaussee clearing 8 feet for the win. Kristian Aanerud was second (7-6) and Hayden Johnson third (7-6).


Leland Alferez won the 400 for the Bucks with a time of 59.25. He was the only runner under 1 minute. Teammates Ian Buderus (1:01.81) and Ayden Star (1:05.06) finished fourth and sixth.
In the 800, Daniel Leonard was fourth (2:32), while Logan Hall was fifth (2:33.80). Damien Vega was fourth in the 1,500 (5:22.12), with Garian McDonald fifth (5:25.40). McDonald was second in the 3,000 (11:57.15), while Vega was third (12:14.95).
In the throwing events, Carson Ward was second in the discus for the Bucks with a toss of 103-8, while Jack DeGrofft was second in the javelin at 127-5.
Sophomore Cyler Cahill won the triple jump with a mark of 38-1, and was fifth in the long jump (18-0 3/4). Jakoby Van Pelt was fifth in the triple jump.
The host Rockets got a handful of points from Sun Schimmel, who won the 800 (2:11.33), was second in the high jump (5-8), and second in the 100 with a PR of 11.29.
Schimmel, along with Logan Gourlie, Boston McCall and Tayven Warren, won the 4×400 relay in a time of 3:53.05, 4 seconds ahead of runner-up South Wasco County.
Warren was also third in the 200 (24.83), fifth in the high jump (5-2) and fifth in the 300 hurdles (50.64), while Elisha Sanchez was sixth in the 400 (1:06.88).
In the throwing events, Gabriel Endersby was fourth in the javelin for the Rockets with a toss of 113-1, while Marshall Hull was eighth in the discus (82-11), and Wyatt Fitzpatrick was eighth in the shot put (31-4).

Damian Gonzalez was the lone winner for the TigerScots, throwing a personal best 38-6 to win the shot put. He was also sixth in the discus (84-11).
Dayton Monaco finished fourth in the high jump (5-4) and fifth in the 100 (12.03), while Michael White was seventh in the 100 (12.31) and fourth in the 110 hurdles (18.67), Camden Parker was seventh in the 400 (1:10.10), and Wesley Thomas was sixth in the 110 hurdles (19.61).
Jeffrey Van Pelt accounted for Nixyaawii’s two points with a seventh-place finish in the javelin (97-0).
Echo, led by junior Jude Royer, won the girls’ team title with 134 points, with Griswold second with 102 and Stanfield third with 66.5. Weston McEwen finished fourth (50), Pendleton was fifth (47.5), Nixyaawii seventh (31) and Pilot Rock was eighth (13).
Royer, the top 1A thrower in the state in the shot put and discus, won both events. She won the shot put with a heave of 37-6 and the discus with a toss of 118-11.
Sophomore Charlie Roggiero was second in the 100 hurdles (20.84) and third in the 300 hurdles (1:02.76) for Weston-McEwen, while freshman Elsie Sprenger was second in the shot put (29-10) and the discus (90-10).
Bree Perkins finished sixth in the high jump (4-4), and seventh in the long jump (14-6) and the triple jump (29-7 1/4) for the TigerScots.
Stella Wolf was fourth in the 200 (29.81), while Joeslyn Flores was sixth (31.20). In the javelin, Lola Hastings was sixth (77-4), and Audrey Bank was seventh in the shot put (26-11).
Pendleton sent a small contingent to the meet, but had success in several events.

Genevieve Christiansen won the 100 with a PR of 12.71, while Presley Greenwalt was second in the high jump (5-0) and Hazel Case was second in the long jump (16-5 3/4).
Also for the Bucks, McKenzie Shelden (30-9 1/2) and Jadyn Schmidt (30-5 3/4) placed third and fourth in the triple jump, while Addie Willman was eighth (29-4 1/2). Layla Winburn was fifth in the long jump and sixth in the 400 (1:19.77), Schmidt was seventh in the high jump (4-4), and Athena Whiskeyjack was eighth in the javelin (71-2).
The Golden Eagles picked up all of their points in two events. Emma Star-Nez won the 800 (2:59.71) and the 1,500 (6:12.41), while Ayanna Star was third in the 1,500 (7:50.38) and Brooklyn Jones was fourth in the 1,500 (8:35). Pilot Rock’s Paige Hansen placed third in the discus (90-8), while teammate Aubrey Corwin was fourth (89-5). Abigail Bensel finished the scoring for the Rockets with a seventh-place finish in the javelin (74-2).
