TOLLGATE — The Hagen Fire has firefighters working deep in the North Fork Umatilla Wilderness near Tollgate, where crews are confronting active flames and hotspots. On Aug. 11, firefighters with Northern Rockies Team 6 Incident Management and R. Franco Restoration worked through smoke-filled air and dense terrain, using hand tools to clear vegetation, scrape the forest floor and strengthen containment lines. The photos document firefighters working to contain the fire, including crews using adzes, pickaxes and chainsaws to construct containment lines.
