ECHO — After eight road matches, Echo finally played on its own court, beating Nixyáawii 25-5, 25-7, 25-12 on Wednesday in the Old Oregon League opener for both teams.
“I am very proud of how these girls have been playing,” Echo coach Des Thew said. “We’ve had a tough preseason with a long team, but they have been very resilient.”
The loss dropped the Golden Eagles to 1-3 on the season.
“We had a tough loss at Echo tonight,” Nixyáawii coach Nina Watchman said. Anna (Watchman) had some nice digs, Cryssa (Kirkie) had some good blocks and Brooklyn (Jones) with some nice kills. Overall, we need to work on getting to the ball faster, but the girls had fun. Echo had some nice kills tonight.”
Gracie Putnam led the Cougars (5-4 overall, 1-0 OOL) with seven kills while Hanley West and Ava Davis each had four. Lilah Miller added 15 assists, while Pryor Thew had six aces and Brynley Allen eight digs. “I mixed the lineup up a lot, which can be hard on a young team, but it didn’t even faze them. These girls are going to be hard to stop once they find their rhythm.”
