PENDLETON — Pendleton opened Greater Oregon League play Tuesday with a 5-2 victory over Ontario, breaking a three-game losing streak.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the girls,” Pendleton coach Katherine Ryder said. “They came out hard. That was by far our best game. We are really starting to bring stuff together, and I can’t wait for the rest of the season.”
The Bucks (1-3 overall, 1-0 GOL) and Tigers were tied at 2-2 at the half, but goalkeeper Sophia Estrada put a lid on the goal in the second half, and Pendleton scored three goals to give Ryder a special birthday gift.
Ava Jackson had a hat trick for the Bucks, while Avery Tynkila and Presley Greenwalt also scored. Khimora Scott, Serenity Taft and Maddy Gunter all had assists.
Pendleton is back in action Sept. 24, at La Grande.
Boys soccer
ONTARIO 9, PENDLETON 1 — The Bucks opened Greater Oregon League play with a road loss to the Tigers.
Pendleton (1-3 overall) scored on freshman Cason Hallman, while sophomore goalkeeper Levi Bonzani made 10 saves.
Volleyball
THE DALLES 3, PENDLETON 0 — The No. 4 Riverhawks defended home court with a 25-17, 25-19, 25-21 nonleague win over the Bucks.
MJ Gomez led the Bucks (5-8) with 14 kills, while Kelsi Primus added six kills, McKinley Moore added 18 digs, Olivia Allen added 13 points with two aces, and Caitlin Cooley had 23 assists, eight digs, and 11 service points with one ace.
“Shaylor Fisher worked hard to put up a big block along with Braelyn Gunter against their big outside hitters,” Pendleton coach Jodi Primus said.
