PENDLETON — MJ Gomez had 17 kills to lead Pendleton to a 25-22, 25-14, 25-15 Greater Oregon League win over Ontario on Thursday at Warberg Court.
“We started off a little slow tonight, but picked it up and worked hard together to make adjustments and execute our plans,” Pendleton coach Jodi Primus said.
Pendleton, which is going after its fourth consecutive GOL title, also got nine kills from Braelyn Gunter, while McKinley Moore had 14 digs, Caitlin Cooley 24 assists and 10 digs and Kalia Ward 16 service points with two aces. Gunter also had 13 service points with two aces.
The Bucks (7-9 overall, 2-0 GOL) will host Vale on Friday.
PILOT ROCK 3, NIXYÁAWII 0 — Gracee Hemphill had five kills, nine digs and four aces to lead the Rockets to an Old Oregon League road win over the Golden Eagles.
“I’m proud of the girls stepping up this game and finishing strong,” PR coach Shelby Journot said. “Attitudes and communication were at a high.”
Nixyáawii (1-6 overall, 0-2 OOL) celebrated its Pink Night, having a moment of silence and giving out pink roses to survivors in attendance.
Kessa Litfin added five kills, nine assists and three aces for Pilot Rock (4-6, 1-1 OOL), while Abbigail Johnson had 14 digs. As a team, the Rockets had 13 aces.
“Our girls did a really good job communicating and hustling,” Nixyáawii coach Nina Watchman said. “Annalise (Watchman) and Devin (Hall Spencer) had some great serves tonight, and Cryssa (Kirkie) and some kills. Overall, we did better and will continue to improve.”
Boys soccer
PENDLETON 1, LA GRANDE 1 — Freshman Antony Tarapues scored with 3 minutes left in the game to help the Bucks to a draw with the visiting Tigers in Greater Oregon League play.
La Grande’s goal was scored on a penalty kick midway through the second half.
Pendleton (1-1-3 overall, 0-1-1 GOL) got three saves from goalkeeper Thor Case.
Girls soccer
LA GRANDE 2, PENDLETON 1 — Senior Ava Jackson scored for the Bucks in the second half, but it wouldn’t be enough as the host Tigers held on for a Greater Oregon League win.
“It was a great game and we played strong,” Pendleton coach Katherine Ryder said. “I am excited to see how we do against La Grande at home because we play stronger at home than we do on the road.”
Autumn Severe and Sophia Estrada shared time in goal for the Bucks (1-4 overall, 1-1 GOL), who will host Madras on Saturday.
