ONTARIO — Kyrael Davis ran for 164 yards and four touchdowns to help Pendleton to a 59-26 Greater Oregon League win Friday over Ontario.
“It was a much-need win for the program,” Pendleton coach Erik Davis said. “We have been in a couple close ones, and a couple of not so close ones. This is one we circled as a must win. It was nice for our kids to have some success, especially on the road.”
The Bucks dominated the game from the start, leading 33-0 at the half.
“Ontario came out and ran the ball pretty efficiently and scored in the third,” Davis said. “In the fourth, we buckled down. Our goal is to play four quarters and I think we played three.”
Pendleton (1-5 overall, 1-1 EOL) amassed 561 yards of offense, with 253 coming through the air. Cole Sazue completed 9 of 10 passes for 204 yards and one touchdown, while Tucker Kuza was 7 of 8 for 49 yards and two touchdowns. Kuza also ran for 21 yards and one touchdown.
Jubal Hoisington was on the receiving end of nine passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Aaden Hernandez also had a touchdown pass.
“Jubal is a matchup problem for other teams,” Davis said. “He made some big catches in the middle of the field on third down.”
Tanner Morgan added 77 yards rushing on nine carries.
“It was great to see the run game get going,” Davis said. “The guys up front blocked really, really well. I thought they did a great job.”
Defensively, Colt McQuinn led the way with 18 tackles, while Vance Phillips had 14.
“This is a good win for us,” Davis said. “We needed this to keep that positivity. This team does work hard. I give high praise to our kids for sticking with it after a 0-5 start. They deserve this. We’re going to see if we can’t finish out the three last three games with a win streak. We are looking forward to a really good Burns team next week.”
