Hansell powers W-M past Irrigon

TigerScot senior surpasses 1,000 kills

IRRIGON — Charlotte Hansell had 18 kills, 17 digs and four aces to help Weston-McEwen to a 25-19, 25-13, 25-17 Blue Mountain Conference win Saturday and secure the No. 2 seed to the district tournament.

“Proud of this front on finishing our league season strong,” W-M coach Marie Cain said. “We are ready for a week of prep going into districts.”

Addy Hall added 30 assists, six digs and three kills for the TigerScots (15-4 overall, 6-2 BMC), while Bree Perkins had 19 digs, Kayli Choin five kills, Reagan Pickard three kills, two blocks and one ace, Megan McLouth nine digs, Elsie Sprenger eight digs, two aces and two kills, and Eloise Hansell two kills, four digs and one ace.

For the Knights (14-6, 4-4), Claire Mueller had 14 kills and 10 digs, while Paeton Magdaleno had four kills and 10 digs, Lexi Covarrubias 15 digs, Shianne Claassen 12 assists, Brooklynn Locey 10 assists, and Angela Ramos three kills.

Charlotte Hansell surpassed 1,000 career kills during the match and now has 1,007 heading into the playoffs. She has 325 kills this season.

Hansell eclipsed the 1,000 career digs mark earlier this season.

“Charlotte is one of those players that works so hard every day to make herself and the team around her better,” Cain said. “She swung up to varsity late in the season her freshman year. She earned an outside position her sophomore year and has refined and expanded her role each and every year as an outside.

“This year, her leadership and aggressive play have been a foundation for the team,” Cain continued. “She is a powerful hitter that swings from all positions on the court. I’m very proud of the player she has grown into, and the hard work she puts in every day. She is the kind of player coaches love having on their team, and it’s been a pleasure to coach her. I’m excited to see just how many kills she adds to her total in the postseason.”
