DUFUR — Kash Bronson poured in 28 points to lead Nixyaawii to a 66-45 nonleague win over Dufur on Thursday night.
“The boys played well tonight,” Nixyaawii coach Aaron Noisey said. “They set the tone early with their defense. Jeffery (Van Pelt) hit some 3s early that got us going. We moved the ball well and that got us some open looks. As a coaching staff, we tell the boys the better we move the ball, the better we are as a team.”
Van Pelt hit three 3-pointers in the first quarter, and Bronson added 10 points as the Golden Eagles (9-9) flew out to a 26-7 lead. Nixyaawii stretched its lead to 43-18 at the half and never looked back.
The Rangers (3-10) outscored the Golden Eagles 15-4 in the fourth quarter, but it didn’t make a difference.
Van Pelt finished with 18 points, while Cashis Bevis and Landon Schofield each added five.
“We have a tough Imbler team tomorrow, so we made sure to give our starters some rest tonight,” Noisey said. “Our bench played most of the fourth because it was a running clock.”
Jake Fargher led the Rangers with 21 points, while Charles Compo added 12.
