Heideman leads Mustangs over TigerScots

ATHENA — Sophomore Gage Heideman had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead Heppner to a 75-30 Blue Mountain Conference win Saturday over Weston-McEwen.

“My boys played well, considering sickness, absences and injuries,” W-M coach Becky Kane said. “We were a little short on numbers, but long on heart and never gave up.”

Heppner (13-4 overall, 3-2 BMC) raced out to a 19-6 lead in the first quarter, and Joseph Albitre scored eight of his 15 points in the second as the Mustangs increased their lead to 42-15 at the half.

The Mustangs went on a 15-9 run in the third behind five points from Caylan Proudfoot, and they closed out the game with Heideman scoring 10 of his points in the fourth.

Proudfoot had 13 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Keaton Coiner had eight points and six rebounds, Alakae Rodriguez had eight points and 11 assists, and Caleb George had seven points.

Jonny Leighty led the TigerScots (3-15, 0-5) with 10 points and four assists, while Colby Perkins had nine points, and Jace Dunlap eight points, seven rebounds and four assists.
