MISSION — Kash Bronson had a career night with 47 points to lead Nixyáawii to a 71-66 Old Oregon League win over Cove.
“Tonight was one of those nights where we needed him to score a lot of points,” Nixyáawii coach Aaron Noisey said. “Jeffrey (Van Pelt) hit two 3s that really gave us a nice cushion in the fourth quarter. I was proud of the way our kids performed.”
The Leopards jumped out to a 15-13 lead after the first quarter, and had a 34-25 lead at the half behind 14 points from Gavin Pedro.
Bronson scored 23 of his points in the third quarter as the Golden Eagles went on a 28-16 run for a 53-50 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Van Pelt hit two 3-pointers in the fourth, and Bronson added eight points as the Golden Eagles outscored the Leopards 18-16 to hold on for the win.
“We got down early, but our kids came back and responded well,” Noisey said. “When we played as a team, we responded well in the second half. They earned that win as a team.”
Van Pelt added 11 points and four rebounds for Nixyáawii (12-9 overall, 6-1 OOL), while Irvin Stewart had nine points and five rebounds.
Pedro finished the game with 23 points for Cove (7-14, 1-7), while Ian Garlitz added 16.
Nixyáawii holds off Cove for OOL win
Nixyáawii 33, Cove 27 — Cryssa Kirkie scored 15 of her 20 points in the second half as Nixyáawii pulled away for a 33-27 Old Oregon League victory Tuesday over Cove.
The Leopards (5-16 overall, 2-6 OOL) led 6-4 after the first quarter, but the Golden Eagles shut Cove down in the second for a 9-6 lead at the half.
Cove outscored Nixyáawii 15-13 in the third to pull within 22-21, but the Golden Eagles came back with an 11-6 run in the fourth to secure the win.
Liana Stewart and Neveah Moore each added four points for Nixyáawii (8-13, 3-4). Briley Beverage led the Leopards with eight points, while Emma Carson added seven.
