Pilot Rock boys clinch seed, Imbler girls win at Pilot Rock

PILOT ROCK — On a night where Pilot Rock honored Sun Schimmel for reaching the 1,000th-point mark, the smooth-shooting junior poured in 36 points in a 73-50 Old Oregon League win Friday over Imbler.

Pilot Rock (19-4 overall, 7-2 OOL) clinched the No. 2 seed from the Meacham Division in the OOL district playoffs.

Schimmel had 13 of his points in the first half as the Rockets took a 31-21 lead at the half.

The Rockets went on a 19-9 scoring spree in the third for a 50-30 lead, and Schimmel had 13 points in the fourth as Pilot Rock closed out the game with a 23-20 run.

Tate Thacker added 14  points for the Rockets, while Gage Williams had 11 and Boston McCall 10.

Pedro Rivas scored 12 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter for Imbler (5-15, 3-5), while Caison Vela had 10 points, and Forrest Tyrrell seven.

Imbler girl pulls away for win over Pilot Rock

PILOT ROCK 32, IMBLER 55 — Olivia Haddock scored 13 of her 20 points in the second half as second-ranked Imbler pulled away for a 55-32 Old Oregon League win Friday over Pilot Rock.

“Our girls competed hard tonight and played outstanding defense,” Pilot Rock coach David Norton said. “Imbler is a tough team and pulled away in the second half. I’m proud of how our girls competed tonight.”

Imbler (17-4 overall, 7-1 OOL) and Pilot Rock were tied 15-15 after the first quarter, then the Panthers went on a 15-7 run in the second quarter for a 30-22 lead at the half.

The points kept falling for Imbler, which went on a 25-10 run in the second half to secure the win.

Jeytt Cant added 12 points for the Panthers, while Whitney Haddock had 10 points.

Sophomore Hailey Severe led the Rockets (16-7, 5-4) with 15 points, while Kashley Golden and Kessa Litfin each had five.
